Dundas Cactus Festival Parade – Thursday August 17th The 2017 Parade takes place Thursday August 17th in downtown Dundas at 7:00pm. The Dundas Driving Park will be closed all day to allow organizers to assemble Parade participants. Toys & Games on Parade will fill the streets downtown along with lots of animals. John Borer is our Honorary Parade Marshall this year for his dedication to bringing the fine Percheron horses to the event in collaboration with Lynden Manor & Allan Holmes Farms. Dundas Citizen of the Year Russ Powers will be driving his firetruck in the Parade. Russ was a volunteer member of the Dundas Jaycees in the early 1970s, when the service club created not only the annual awards, but also the Dundas Cactus Festival. He is recognized for ongoing service to his community as a volunteer, chairing both the Dundas Community Services and Dundas Museum and Archives boards of directors. Russ will be driving his fire truck in the Parade. William Olenek was named the 2016 Dundas Valley Collision Youth Volunteer of the Year. Olenek volunteers extensively with the Stewards of Cootes Watershed, not only in the group’s weekly area creek cleanups, but also by managing their equipment and storage. Dundas Learning Centre, which has provided education and growth opportunities for intellectually challenged adults for more than 20 years, was named Business of the Year. The Shriners will be back in force with the Hillbilly clans & critters, go-carts, clowns, Oriental Shrine Band & Maid of the Mist. Five Historic Dundas Fire Trucks and our present day emergency fire ambulance & police will be there too! Dave Bowen is presenting an antique horse drawn 1900 Police Vehicle Replica. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Dundas Valley Private Wealth Counsel & Assante Wealth Management the Royal Regiment Band will help us celebrate

Canada’s 150th birthday and complete the Parade. The Dundas Concert Band will once again perform in Grafton Square. Remember Your Toonies The Toonie Crew will be out in force on their own this year. Look for our bright yellow banners and buckets! Please give generously to support this great line up of bands. Be safe! The route is closed from 6:00pm – 10:00pm. Please follow the marshals’ instructions and do not allow anyone to exit a float until the float is off the road on the grass verge on the south side of Mill St. Pick Up – At the end of the route. Please enter the disassembling area via Peel St. to Mill St. and park on the south grass area to keep the road open and traffic moving. hen you buy a home, you’re not just buying a physical structure. You’re buying into the neighborhood. The types of people who live there, the local shops, the parks, swimming pools and restaurants all contribute to the overall feel of the area, and make it distinct from other neighborhoods. Thank You Downtown Dundas BIA! The Dundas Cactus Festival is an independently run FEO Top 100 event with volunteers from the community who meet once a month prior to festival dates to bring you the best in family fun and entertainment. However, it takes the support of many partners, sponsors and groups in Dundas to truly make it a memorable community event. We are pleased to thank and have the support of the BIA again this year. 2017 marks another collaborative year between the Cactus Festival Committee and Dundas Downtown BIA! The BIA represents the ‘economic lifeblood’ of our downtown and the many small businesses that make our core vibrant and special. This year the BIA is sponsoring the ‘King Albert Stage’ on Friday August 18 where musical guests include; Cadillac Bill and The Creeping Bent, The Vaudevillian and SevenDown! Thank you again for your sponsorship and sharing your street with us again this year!

Cactus Festival Green Team: How about a Little Diversion? The Cactus Fest Green Team founded and lead by Mike Travers has made tremendous strides over the past 3 years and is looking to top performance levels again in 2017. 2016 diversion rates hit a whopping 67%. The team would love to see this crest over 70% this Festival but we need your help!!! “I think we can increase diversion rates further by focusing on food vendors, as their waste likely increased our pure garbage waste.”, said Travers. “This year we are adding more green ambassadors to help manage food vendors waste throughout the weekend and periodically throughout the Festival. We are also continuing to add paid sorter positions.” If you are looking for some work or a shift of three hours or more at $15/hr, send a note and your interest to [email protected] Please find the coloured waste receptacles throughout the Festival and help us pre-sort it to increase diversion. Here’s to a cleaner, greener festival this year!

Also he has WHEN SHOULD YOU CONSIDER SEEING A serious business. Patients expect CHIROPODIST? a certified pedorthist designation. Robert has noticed quality, value and reliability. PAIN, PLANTAR FASCIITIS is an an increase in several types of foot conditions. HEEL inflammation of the long tendon like structure Baby boomers of today, continue to remain very active on the bottom of the foot, which stretches from the heel to all 5 toes. It becomes overstretched TOENAIL FUNGUS can be described as thick, and many are noticing problems with their feet.

ANCASTER FOOT CLINIC & ORTHOTIC CENTRE offers clinical services ranging from routine foot care to complex bio-mechanical and gait analysis and proper custom made orthotics. We will examine your feet first and clearly explain what is wrong and what can be done to relieve the problem. No two patients are alike. We specialize in CONDITION SPECIFIC and ACTIVITY SPECIFIC orthotics: heel spur , plantar fasciitis, etc. Different types of foot orthotics are better suited for different activities such as standing , or walking on the job, and sport specific orthotics (e. g. golf, skiing). Long distance runners are in a class of their own. Their lower limb conditions may be very challenging, requiring special orthotics. Special focus is on “DIFFICULT” cases of orthotic treatment. These conditions usually are more “stubborn” and may require some extra fine tuning of orthotics or even a remake. In these cases a new plaster cast may be taken and new orthotics manufactured at no extra cost to the patient. We manufacture 100% CUSTOM MADE ORTHOTICS starting from assessment, biomechanical exam, gait analysis, diagnosing, casting of the feet, prescribing and designing the prospected orthotics, manufacturing on site and fine tuning if and when needed. Next to the Medical Doctors, Registered Chiropodists / Podiatrists, primary care practitioners with at least 3 years of post grad training, can DIAGNOSE and TREAT foot conditions as well as PRESCRIBE biomechanical devices such as orthotics.

and tears. Pain is worse in the mornings, especially in the heel area where the plantar fascia is tearing away from the bone, where the HEEL SPUR may form. Short term treatment may include anti-inflammatory medication, taping, cortisone injection, ultrasound, etc. Long term treatment is found mainly through the use of custom made orthotics, which correct the structural condition responsible for the plantar fasciitis. METATARSALGIA, BALL-OF-FOOT-PAIN is a disorder where the joints of the ball of the foot become painful or inflamed, usually due to excessive pressure over a long period of time. It may feel like “walking on pebbles”. Other people feel a diffuse pain or burning. Sometimes MORTON’S NEUROMA may feel similar. High heeled, pointy- toed shoes and being overweight are the prime culprits. CALLUSES AND CORNS may develop under the joints. Metatarsalgia can also be caused by arthritis, trauma, hard floors and specific footwear. For mild cases, a simple change of footwear may be all that is required. For moderate to severe cases, a full length custom orthotics provides proper foot alignment, as well as cushioning the painful, damaged area.

ARCH / KNEE PAIN Now consider a foot which is not perfectly formed. One possibility is a foot which is flattened out … or stuck in a high arch position. The foot structure can also be twisted toward the midline of the body (varus) or away from it (valgus). These and other structural variations can adversely affect the foot’s ability to perform it’s job and later cause pains in the knees or back.

brittle and discolored (yellow / brown) toe nails. Possible treatments may include mechanical debridement (the nails are drilled down to normal thickness) and use of the new and effective topical medications. New treatments with LASER for TOENAIL FUNGUS proved to be very effective. PLANTAR WART / VERRUCA may be treated by conventional methods such as freezing or by use of number of topical agents. Latest research shows that LASER can also be used in the treatment of more stubborn or larger plantar warts. INGROWN TOENAIL A nail that has grown into the skin, causing redness, swelling excruciating pain and sometimes infection; may be caused by improper toenail cutting or improperly fitting shoes. Usually, a small in office procedure solves the problem, or nail surgery can be performed to permanently cure the problem. ROUTINE FOOT CARE deals with more basic foot problems such as DIFFICULT TO CUT toe nails, THICK heels, corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, plantar warts, diabetic foot care, toenail fungus, ulcers etc… ARTHRITIS An effective solution to help would be soft or accommodative custom made orthotics, which have proved very successful, by maintaining proper foot position, relieving mechanical stress and alleviating pressure on sensitive areas.
