What does Shaw Trust do? This is the Shaw Trust logo.

Shaw Trust helps people to find jobs, learn new skills and improve their mental health and wellbeing. We also run social enterprises, charity shops and schools.

1,000 people work at Shaw Trust and 1,000 volunteers help us to help others.

This year we helped thousands of people.

Urfan’s story Urfan is one person we helped. He was applying for lots of jobs. He struggled as he has learning difficulties and speech and hearing problems. A person from Shaw Trust (called an adviser) helped him with his problems and got him work experience. They got him an interview at a new shop in town. The shop owner saw past his disabilities and offered Urfan a job. Now Urfan enjoys helping customers and has made lots of new friends at work.

Urfan says: ‘I love working and I’m happy now!”

Gemma’s story This year we helped thousands of people to learn new skills.

Gemma was out of work for 2 years. She went to the job centre and they told her about Shaw Trust. When Gemma came to Shaw Trust they helped her to do a course to become an apprentice plumber. Gemma says ‘Shaw Trust treated me a like a real person. They really care.’

We also run five schools helping 1,400 pupils and we’ve helped nearly 2,000 people in prisons too.

Rahmat’s story 835

We helped 835 people this year with their mental health and wellbeing. We helped Rhamat find a job but after 6 months she started to get depressed and didn’t want to leave her house. She was struggling to cope at work and caring for her two children. Her adviser got in contact and started to support her again. Week by week, Rahmat slowly built her confidence up

She went to groups such as a woodwork class. This helped her relax.

Rahmat says ‘Shaw Trust helped me to be a stronger, happier and more comfortable person’

Where does our money go? Money coming in 2016 £107 million

The money we get from government or local authorities to help people like Urfan, Gemma and Rhamat. The money we get when people buy things in our 50 charity shops.

Money going out 2016 £97 million

Luckily, the money going out is less than we have coming in. This means we have extra money to put back into our community projects, such as our social enterprises.
