ARCSHS and Curtin University are co-hosting a full day forum exploring PIEDs, injecting drug use and the social, political and cultural contexts that they are embedded in. This forum has been developed in response to the rise of PIED injecting in Australia. It brings together researchers, health and community services and the fitness industry to explore some of the challenges, complexities and opportunities associated with the delivery of health information and healthcare to people who use PIEDs. Tuesday 19 June and Thursday 21 June 9:00am – 5:00pm This 2 day practicum presented by Clinical Psychologists Dr Michelle Earle and Anthony Talbot covers theory and practice of Motivational Interviewing (MI), a counselling technique which assists clients to make positive behaviour changes. This program offers the opportunity to learn, with a focus on the practice of the core skills of technique. The program is suitable for health professionals and community workers and is aimed primarily at those working within the blood borne virus and STI sector. Morning Tea and Lunch provided. Wednesday 11 or Tuesday 17 April 9.15am12.15pm An introduction to Sexually Transmissible Infections (STIs) including current epidemiology, clinical signs, modes of transmission and available treatments. This session will also examine strategies for talking about sexual health with clients and sexual health promotion initiatives.
