Educational Development Initiative

Educational Development Initiative (EdDI), is founded to bridge the gap between two spheres: international development and access to higher education. We see ourselves as a dyanmic catalyst - advancing international development initiatives abroad through a fully sustainable cycle, powered by local development.

LOCAL-Boston Metro Area APEX - SAT Subject Test Preparation Program APEX is a 9-week SAT Subject Test preparation program aimed at providing a low-cost SAT Subject Test preparation program to the local high school community. The program is 77-87% cheaper than industry programs, and we offer generous or full financial aid to any student demonstrating need. We will also be offering college seminars as part of the program to serve as a resource for our students in identifying further possiblities for higher education. We hope to help open the doors to opportunity for students coming from traditionally underserved high school districts or social backgrounds.

International Development Workshop Day Once every year, EdDI invites the regional high school community to come to MIT for a day of discovery, learning, and fun, as high school students attend seminars and hands-on activities led by MIT students and faculty who have successfully developed projects abroad. MIT is a global leader in international development, and we believe that by sharing knowledge, students are challenged to explore their potential of becoming global leaders.

International - Int’l Dev. NGOs Funding for NGOs Working in International Education The revenue from APEX, minus 15% reserved for logistical costs of the organization and monetary support to MIT students conducting ID projects via the PSC, is completely rechanneled to education projects advanced by international development NGOs working abroad. In the same philosophy of development through education that EdDI exhibits in the Boston community, we hope our vision will have the same impact globally.

Partnership with NGOs EdDI seeks to pursue a working relationship with international development NGOs, extending invitations for NGOs to visit MIT and provide seminars, securing internship opportunities for MIT students, and identifying further areas of action.

Voice in Advocacy

From a campus approach, EdDI hopes to encourage MIT students in taking action towards international development. Through lobbying and activism, EdDI also aspires to go beyond the campus and stand up for the right to equal access to higher education in the United States.

Community - MIT and Giving Back Campus Events Semesterly speaker events and a yearly large event focused on international development or access to higher education will be offered to the MIT community to inspire conversation and action planning.

Student Opportunities Internship with “NGO of the Semester,” funding for MIT students with ID projects abroad (espeically those with an educational focus) through partnership with the PSC, and other volunteering and activism activities.
