If you recently got a letter from Com Ed stating that Dynegy Energy is

Elgin Police

ending their contact with City of Elgin....this is true... and this is the City's Response: Municipal Aggregation with Dynegy Energy ends in January 2017. The City of Elgin will NOT be providing municipal aggregation in 2017 as other supplier rates have equalized. With the expiration of the contract, Elgin residents with Dynegy will be moved back to ComEd for electric supply. If you are still interested in having an alternate supplier other than ComEd, you will need to enter into a contract with an Alternate Retail Electric Supplier (ARES), approved by the Illinois Commerce Commission. Find an Alternate Retail Electric Supplier (ARES) at: https://www.icc.illinois.gov/utility/default.aspx?type=2

or call Illinois Commerce Commission at 1-800-524-0795. More Info go to: www.cityofelgin.org/electricity Com Ed plans to install smart meters in all homes and businesses across Northern Illinois by the end of 2018. You will receive mailers in your mailbox 90 days out before they start installation. If your meter is already outside, no Com Ed person will need to come into your home. If your meter IS INSIDE your home, then they will have to replace that meter from inside your home. So look for mailers, letters etc. and never hesitate to ask for ID before anyone ever enters your home.

If you EVER get a call from someone asking you to pay for back taxes (IRS), bail money, debts, utility bills or cable bills with Amazon gift cards, iTunes gift cards, PayPal, or reloadable cards like MoneyPak, Reloadit, or Vanilla, or by money transfers through services like Western Union or MoneyGram….THINK TWICE...THIS IS A SCAM. If you tell someone the code from any of those cards, or send a wire transfer, you probably won’t get your money back. Always, Always double check these scare tactic calls by talking to a friend or relative or the police BEFORE you send or wire money or buy these cards. You look up the phone numbers yourself and call the organizations or companies to verify FIRST. It only takes a couple of minutes but will be worth it. Don’t get scammed! Nearly everyday someone in Elgin is getting scammed for hundreds and even thousands of dollars as a result of scams like this. Please don’t let it be you or someone you know. Spread the word! Remember it is a Class A Misdemeanor if dogs & cats are injured or die because of their exposure to extreme weather. The offense is punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 or up to 1 year in jail, though Judges would have discretion to impose lesser sentences. The bill is SB125.

Speaker will be Officer Nick Kozicki who will explain how Elgin Police keep track of Elgin’s current Sex Offenders.
