Justification CETA will strengthen EU-Canada relations. It is an important instrument in the EU’s efforts to shape the standards of global trade in the 21st century. It is the most modern and progressive free trade agreement that the EU has ever negotiated, upholding Europe's standards related to food safety, product safety, consumer protection, health, and the environment. It also includes measures to ensure the participation of businesses, unions, civil society and citizens in the implementation of these provisions and of the agreement overall.
