The Water Framework Directive (2000/60 / EC), establishes a new Community framework for action in the field of water policy and adopts a novel hydrological planning process that pursues the fulfillment of certain environmental objectives for all the water masses. In the Spanish case, it is harmonized with the traditional approach of the hydrological plans that had the purpose of satisfying the sustainable supply to attend to the diverse socioeconomic uses of the water that the society needs. Within the framework of this contract, coordination work is carried out for the 25 Spanish demarcations establishing common criteria, avoiding undesired heterogeneity in the different plans and forming a nexus to complete and advance in many of the considerations made by the Commission during the meetings and documents as a result of the revision work of the current plans.

The project was part of the IBRD (World Bank) Water and Sanitation Programme for various Brasilian towns. ACCIONA Ingeniería carried out the necessary studies and prepared the concept design for water supply and sanitation systems in the towns of Fraiburgo, Curitibanos and San Miguel d’Oeste. These towns did not have a public sanitation system at the moment when the project was implemented. The preliminary technical studies were carried out to identify the required sanitation system: sewerage network, collectors, spillways, pumping stations, waste water treatment plant. The services included the description and evaluation of the actual conditions regarding population, socioeconomic status and sanitation (health). Concept design with the definition of the project area, domestic and industrial effluents, demographic studies, parameters and criteria. Formulation, drafting and comparing the technical-economic alternatives as well as describing the solution proposed. Elaboration of the Eligibility Report for the solution proposed following the IBRD procedures, including specifications and TORs for the detailed engineering phase. Extensive topographical and geological/geotechnical surveys of the project area. Environmental Impact assessment and proposed mitigating measures.

GREEN ECONOMY SECTOR IN GHANA

STUDIES AND DETAILED DESIGN OF MULARROYA DAM

Location:

Spain

Company:

ACCIONA Ingeniería, S.A.

Client:

Ministry of Environment

Implementation Period: 1995-2006 Investment:

165,000,000 EUR

Engineering services: 2,939,705.67 EUR

Services provided by the engineering firm: The detailed design development for a heterogeneous dam made of loose materials, with an impermeable clay puddle core and rockfill shoulders. The height of the dam: is over 90 m and the crest length is around 900 m. The dam located on the river Grío has the reservoir’s capacity of 103 hm3. The detailed design of a 13 km tunnel under the water from Jalón river to the tail of the reservoir at Grío river was prepared. The tunnel passes through the northern foothills of Iberian System, with an internal diameter of 2.9 m, to give a maximum flow rate of 8 m3/s. A seismic reflection study was carried out to analyse the stratification and tectonic features at great depths. A sounding campaign for the dam and for the tunnel was carried out. Also hydrological studies, as well as hydraulic and mechanical studies were carried out. An emergency plan, operating norms, and a loading plan have all been designed.
