Enoch is a hero of faith who teaches us the importance Enoch is a hero of faith who teaches us the importance of walking with God every day. Genesis Enoch is a hero of faith who teaches us the importance of walking with God every day. Genesis chapter 5 is where we first learn about Enoch. This chapter is referred to as a “desert of death” because you find the same three words over and over again: “and he died.” Yet, right in the middle of because you find the same three words over and over again: “and he died.” Yet, right in the middle of this chapter you have the story of Enoch. this chapter you have the story of Enoch. Very little is said about Enoch in the Bible. You actually read more about Enoch in the New Testament (94 words) than you do the Old Testament (51 words). Testament (94 words) than you do the Old Testament (51 words). Enoch never saw God do any great miracles through him. He only had one claim to fame: “Enoch Enoch never saw God do any great miracles through him. He only had one claim to fame: “Enoch __________________ with __________” (vs. 24). __________________ with __________” (vs. 24). The real measure is not how much is said about him but what is said about him. When you study The real measure is not how much is said about him but what is said about him. When you study the incredible life of Enoch, you’ll find he was one of only two men in the Bible (the other being Elijah) the incredible life of Enoch, you’ll find he was one of only two men in the Bible (the other being Elijah) who never ever died. He was taken directly to heaven. who never ever died. He was taken directly to heaven. What does it mean to walk with God? It means:

1. I ___________ _____________ ________________ with God. Every word in that statement is very important. We can enjoy it; we don’t have to endure it. It’s not just ordinary fellowship; it is intimate fellowship. The idea of “walking with God” is a figure of speech (a metaphor) that talks about having the most intimate fellowship with God. Why did God create you and then redeem you? It wasn’t so that we would serve Him. If He just wanted servants, He could have created more angels. He created us so that we would love Him and walk with Him. A walk is having fellowship. A walk is going side-by-side, sometimes hand-in-hand. There are three different ways of walking with God that reflect our level of intimacy with Him. 1. “I will _____________ you walk” stage 2. “I will _______________ you” stage 3. “I am walking __________ you” stage The problem with most people is that we know __________________ God, but we don’t really ______________ God. Knowing about Jesus Christ and believing in Jesus Christ are two very different things. God does not have ___________________, but God does have ____________________. God loves all men equally, but there are those who have engaged in a more intimate relationship with God than others. You have as much of God in your life as you _______________ to have. If you have little of God in your life today it’s because you have little time or desire for Him in your life. When you seek for God you will ____________ God and you will find just as much of God as you will _______________. Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart.” If you want that kind of relationship with the Lord it takes an investment on your part. If you are not walking ____________ God, you are walking _____________ from God. The spiritual life is like traveling upstream, and if you stop "rowing" to move forward (striving DAILY to grow, to be more like Jesus, to see God), then you'll not remain where you are; you'll be swept back to where you were or worse – swept under by the riptides of the world, the flesh, or the devil. You don’t need to spend time with God because God needs to get to know you. He already knows everything about us—inside and outside. The reason we need to spend time with God is not because God needs to get to know us…it’s because we need to get to know God. It is absolutely crucial if you are to walk with God that you take time every day to have a quiet time with God. “The devil knows that he cannot take the Word of God away from the people; so he takes the people away from the Word of God.” – David Jeremiah Notice that it says that Enoch walked with God not that God walked with Enoch. God wasn’t going Enoch’s way; Enoch was going God’s way. If you want to walk with God you’ve got to be going His direction. If you are going to walk with God, you have to already have in your mind this commitment: “I am going to do the will of God.”

2. I _____________ ______________ _________ in God. I am capable of having unbelievable mountain-moving faith with God.

Psalm 37:23-24, “The steps of a man are established by the Lord, and He delights in his way. When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, because the LORD is the One who upholds him with his hand.” When you stumble, it is awesome to know that God holds on to you and never lets go! Your eternal security doesn’t depend on ________ holding on to God; it depends upon _______ holding on to you. Hebrews 11:5: “By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended 6 as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” What was it about Enoch’s faith that pleased God? • He obeyed the ___________ of God. Dr. Adrian Rogers, “If you please God it doesn’t matter who you don’t please. But if you don’t please God, it doesn’t matter who you do please.” Real faith is not something that people ________ that they have; real faith is something that people ____________ that they have. Read Genesis 5:21. When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. That’s a big deal because of the name Enoch gave to Methusaleh. Behind every name in Scripture was a very special meaning. The name Methusaleh means, “When he is dead it will come or it will be sent.” What was going to be sent? God had revealed to Enoch that he was going to send a flood to the earth. From the very moment that Methusaleh was born, Enoch knew that as long as Methusaleh was alive, God would not send the flood. The reason Methusaleh lived longer than any man is this reason: He illustrated just how patient and longsuffering God is.

3. I ______________ an _____________ _____________ with God.

The Christian life is not hard – it’s impossible! There’s only one who can live the Christian life and that’s the Christ of the Christian life, and He lives it in you and through you. It’s not your job to produce the power to live a Christian life. It’s your job to release that power by faith! Genesis 5:24, “And he was not for God took Him.” He took one step on earth and the next step in heaven. Enoch was “raptured” (simply means taken up), which will one day happen to every Christian alive when Jesus comes again. GOOD NEWS: If you are a follower of Jesus Christ (and not all of you are), it really doesn’t matter whether you go through the clouds or through the grave, God is going to take you home to be with Him. What are the results of a life that walks with God? • Walking with God causes us to reflect God’s __________________. (Psalm 37:4) • Walking with God allows us to receive God’s ___________________. (Psalm 37:4) • Walking with God moves us to rely on God’s ___________________. (Psalm 37:5) • Walking with God teaches us to rest in God’s ________________. (Psalm 37:7) Here is the main lesson of Enoch’s life: If on this earth you walk __________ God, then when you come to the end of your life you walk _______ God. One of the greatest problems in our spiritual lives today as followers of Christ is that we are a people who know about God, but very few of us know God intimately. Wouldn’t it be a sad and disappointing to someday meet a God face to face that we have never known heart to heart? You cannot know God unless you spend time with Him. I am making a commitment to spend time walking with God through prayer and Bible study for the next seven days. I will share what God is teaching me today with someone else either in person or on social media (Facebook, Twitter).
