ABOUT THE CHICAGO ARCHITECTURE FOUNDATION Six years ago, the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) launched the first Open House Chicago. This free, citywide festival drew 23,000 people in its first year. By 2016, it grew to 100,000 attendees, making it one of the largest architecture events in the world. This year is our biggest yet, with more than 200 sites.

FIRST CHURCH OF DELIVERANCE, BRONZEVILLE (p. 15)

TEN THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT OPEN HOUSE CHICAGO (OHC)

1. OHC is a FREE public festival with behind-the-scenes access to 200+ buildings across Chicago—no tickets required.

2. The seventh-annual OHC is October 14–15 from 9am to 5pm. Open times vary by site. Hours are listed in this guide and online.

3. Visit our mobile-friendly website, openhousechicago.org, to plan your OHC itinerary and get the most up-to-date information on sites and hours.

4. OHC is organized by the Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF), a nonprofit cultural organization, in collaboration with many community partners and sponsors.

5. CAF members have access to four exclusive members-only sites and priority-access at all other sites.

6. Become a member and receive OHC benefits instantly— visit openhousechicago.org/membership.

7. Eight sites are labeled “RSVP Only” and required reservations. All of these sites have reached capacity and reservations are now closed.

8. Follow CAF on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for live OHC updates: @ChiArchitecture and #OHC2017

9. Keep OHC free—go to openhousechicago.org/donate or text OHC2017 to 41411 and give.

10. Have fun!

OHC is just one of many CAF programs that inspire people to discover why design matters. Today, when you visit CAF at 224 S. Michigan Ave., you’ll find visitors embarking on tours, camps for children, lectures for adults and field trip groups gathered around our 3D model of Chicago. In summer 2018, CAF will open the Chicago Architecture Center at 111 E. Wacker Dr. This new location is situated above the dock for the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise aboard Chicago’s First Lady Cruises—the city’s top-ranked tour. At the Center, CAF will grow its programs and education initiatives and tell new stories about Chicago, our dynamic neighborhoods and how the city invented the skyscraper. Through interactive exhibits, we will show Chicagoans and visitors how we can build the cities of tomorrow.

LYNN OSMOND, CAF PRESIDENT & CEO

RAHM EMANUEL, MAYOR OF CHICAGO
