CORK WORLD BOOK FEST 2016 Tue 19 - Sat 23 April 2016 City Library | Grand Parade | Christchurch

Mark your diary for the 2016 Cork World Book Festival at Cork City Library and Triskel Christchurch this April 19 – 23. Guaranteed to be a vibrant celebration of books and reading over five days in April! “Words were central to the 1916 Easter Rising, the inspirational words in the Proclamation, the writings of Connolly, Pearse and the other signatories” says Liam Ronayne, Cork City Librarian and Chair of the Festival. “The Cork World Book Festival’s programme for 2016 will reflect the continuing importance of the Easter Rising, both in Ireland and in the wider world. The festival will open with Poets’ Revolution, featuring writers whose work is socially and politically engaged. We have four international poets travelling to Cork for the event: Turkish Kurdish poet and journalist, Bejan Matur; Palestinian poet and writer, Mourid Barghouti; Scottish poet Liz Lochhead; and Basque poet Itxaro Borda. The exhibition The Poets Revolution: 1916 and Irish Literature at Cork City Library’s foyer will showcase books from the era and inspired by the Rising.” Other literary highlights will include Kevin Barry reading from his ‘Cork’ story, Rob Doyle from These are the young men, while Nuala Ní Chonchúir imagines the private life of poet Emily Dickinson. Best newcomer nominee in the Irish Book Awards 2015 Caitriona Lally (Eggshells) will share the stage with fellow Liberties Press authors Jan Carson (Children’s Children) and Kevin Curran (Citizens). Kevin will also host a writing workshop as will Louis de Paor. Celebrate Charlotte Bronte’s 200th birthday with an evening in the company of writers Louise O’Neill, Kathy D’arcy and Dr Maureen O’Connor or on Saturday get advice from agents Simon Trewain & Polly Nolan, authors Alana Kirk, Hazel Gaynor, Elizabeth Rose Murray & Mary Malone and publisher Vanessa Fox O’Loughlin on how to produce a classic yourself. With installations by Artlink and stalls on the Grand Parade there is something for everyone at the Cork City Library and Triskel Christchurch World Book Fest 2016. Events details to follow.
