Valence Library and Valence House Monday 28 September, 10am to 4.30pm This year Barking and Dagenham is holding a week of activities to celebrate Older People’s Day. Events are taking place all over the Borough so have a look and see what is taking place near you.

Join us at Valence Library and Valence House to try a range of activities and workshops.

All events are free and you will receive a voucher to use at the new Abbey Spa at Abbey Leisure Centre, Barking when you register for an event (T&C’s Apply). The map on the back of the leaflet shows you where all the venues are.

Tai Chi – A type of Martial Arts very well known for its health benefits and effective means of alleviating stress and anxiety.

Come along and try a range of fun activities at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre and find out about our Ageing Well membership that costs as little as £1 a week!

This event will provide an opportunity for carers and cared for to engage in a meaningful activity to reduce social isolation, develop peer support, participate in gentle activity and learn a new skill with a qualified dance instructor.

Elderberries – A session that offers the opportunity to socialise, have fun, and be active all at the same time. Legs, Bums and Tums – A light hearted class which will help tone targeted areas, as well as increasing stamina and cardiovascular fitness over all.

Bokwa step – is an innovative approach to traditional step aerobics. You draw letters and numbers with your feet whilst moving to popular music.

Bingo with a Twist – Fun twist on bingo, to improve awareness of physical heath and well-being, healthy lifestyle changes, and socialising through group games.

Abbey Leisure Centre Sunday 4 October 10am to 2pm Our Place, Our Time Come along and try a range of fun activities at Abbey Leisure Centre and find out about our Ageing Well membership that costs £1 a week! Aqua aerobics – Tone and sculpt your body with no impact to your joints. This popular water aerobics workout is a swimming blend of cardio and resistance training, and may incorporate resistance tools such as buoyant water weights and noodles 60+ Swimming Session – Our qualified Swimming instructor will be on hand for tips and advice on your swimming Elderberries – a session that offers the opportunity to socialise, have fun, and be active all at the same time. Zumba – A total workout combining all elements of fitness, cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility. Yoga – A form of exercise that focus on strength, flexibility and breathing |to boost physical and mental wellbeing.
