AWARD CEREMONY: SWF The award ceremony for all of the festival competitions, and a screening of the awarded films. CINEMA IN ACTION: Does a film have the power to make usmore sensitive to social issues? Ascreening of short films focusing oneconomic migration from differentperspectives, combined with a discussionwith special guests from Social Policy study programme at the Poznań University of Economics. COMPETITION: DANCES WITH CAMERA International short film festival competition whose common language comes in the form of movement and dance. Every year, carefully selected dance films from around the world expose the audience to limitless possibilities of physical expression and narration in the form of a feature, documentary and animation. COMPETITION: unxpctd.mov For the first time, the Short Waves Festival competition repertoire has been expanded by means of an addition called unxpctd.mov, an international short film competition associated with visual art, classic cinema and experimental forms. FRIDAY NIGHT SHORTS Friday Night Shorts is a fun comedy program meant as a warm up before the festival weekend. The careful selection of films and music will be provided by the head of London Short Film Festival Philip Ilson. FILM POSTER DESIGN WORKSHOP A three-day workshop, during which the participants from Poland and Germany will be designing posters for selected short films. They will be guided by Jan Bajtlik – one of the most talented Polish graphic designers. FOKUS: Wermke & Leinkauf About Cities and People The exhibition focuses on artistic endeavors of Matthias Wermke and Mischa Leinkauf. Through subtle actions in urban space, the artists interfere with established order and expose the internal conflicts of various locations. FOCUS: CHRISTOPH GIRARDET. SYNTHESIS A retrospective of Christoph Girardet’s work, a prominent German artist and author of experimental films created by means of the found footage technique. Girardet composes his works out of pieces of both original and Hollywood cinema, as well as advertisements and archival scientific films.
FOCUS: Best of Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen is one of the oldest and most important short film festivals. The program includes the best German films from the last two years, which broadly illustrate the interests of young artists. FOCUS: Best of ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival Münster Film adaptations of poetry in which the borders between art forms are particularly fluid, while film, art and poetry come into one. Prepared in partnership with Zebra Poetry Film Festival. FOCUS: SAVING POP CULTURE The selection presents 18 best German music videos from 2007-2015, which broadly define the most interesting phenomena in the field. The set was prepared in partnership with Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen. FUSION CINEMA A unique event that combines sound, image and a feast for the palate. The attendees will experience the cinematic world of club rhythm and visions during the musical journey through the Balkans, Turkey and India in the modern, electronic production. Concordia Taste chefs will provide the flavorful experience. HIDDEN PLEASURES A multi-channel musical installation that constitutes a soundtrack to non-existent film, while its visual projection will be created solely in the imagination of the audience.
OLD MAN WHO CAN A set of films with characters who prove that the autumn years are not a wasted time and life may be full of adventures at any age. OSCAR® NOMINATED SHORTS Film screenings consisting of selections made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the best short animation and best short live action categories. POLISH COMPETITION The aim of Polish competition is presentation of Polish short films, which provide a fresh view on modern cinema and may be distinguished by a signature cinematic language. POZNAŃ INDUSTRY WEEKEND The aim of the project is making the local film industry more professional. Poznań Industry Weekend consists of a workshop and lecture on the art of short film screenplay. More info on the event and recruitment: www.shortwaves.pl RANDOM HOME CINEMA Unique cinematic house parties, during which we transform Poznanian’s private apartments into cosy cinemas. SHARE POZNAŃ AWARD CEREMONY: EUROPEAN SHORT PITCH The event is structured as an open audiovisual jam, a meeting of VJs, musicians, and improv enthusiasts. The European Short Pitch awards will be handed out during the meeting.
SHORT MATTERS A set of short film nominees of European Film Award also known as the European Oscars. The nominated films consist of the winners of the most important film festivals in Europe. SHORT TALK with SWPS University A short film screening "Il Silenzio" (Directed by: Farnoosh Samadi, Ali Asgari) and a discussion with special guests from SWPS University. STOP MAKING SENSE A selection of experimental feature short films taking on universal themes such as searching for one’s identity or the need of freedom, incorporated in a visually appealing set, taking the audience on a journey to locations such as Colombia or or Philippines. SWF FAMILY A cinematic option for a younger, yet equally demanding festival audience. The program includes two different screenings for the youngest (+5) and a little older (+10) cinema enthusiasts. THE MAKERS An audiovisual event, which is a product of an cultural-animation project that included three months of cooperation between the festival team and Poznań’s local vocational school. The workshop included practical exercises associated with creating project concepts, promotion and production.
HOT SHORTS The hottest set of films at Short Waves Festival. Taking on the subjects such as love, sex and desire and different dimensions of modern human relationships. The program includes animations, documentaries and features from around the world. INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION The most prestigious competiton in the festival program that constitutes an international panorama of short film cinema. Open to diversity of form, genre and theme. MIDNIGHT SHORTS In reference to legendary New York independent film screenings, the selectors from Żubroffka Short Film Festival will present a program consisting of contemporary motion pictures bringing back the old midnight movies cult. NEW QUEER VISIONS A set of short films exploring sexual, cultural and racial diversity from the LGBT+ perspective. Created in partnership with a British festival called New Queer Visions.
