Excipients for Exotics* Robert MacLean, DVM, Senior Veterinarian, Audubon Nature Institute After this presentation, pharmacists and technicians will be more likely to consider optimizing the delivery and systemic absorption of a prescription intended for an exotic animal, perhaps guiding the client to more appropriate formulations for the species or situation. This session is approved by RACE to provide CE to veterinarians and veterinary technicians. At the conclusion of this program, the participating pharmacist or technician will be able to: • Compare unique issues related to exotic animal oral and injectable medication • Examine an animal's biology, including size and natural diet when compounding • Summarize case studies relating excipients to treatment outcome • Explain relevant regulations related to public animal facility operations

Robert MacLean, DVM, Senior Veterinarian, Audubon Nature Institute Dr. Robert MacLean is currently the Senior Veterinarian at the Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine and started with Audubon in 2006 as an Associate Veterinarian immediately after completing his residency in zoological medicine with the North Carolina State University. Dr. MacLean is the Veterinary Advisor for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Taxon Advisory Group for Gruiformes (cranes), and he chairs Audubon’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee.
