Urgent actions for children in 2016 • • • • •
In 2016, an estimated 2.4 million people, including 1.2 million children, will be in need of humanitarian assistance. Over 900,000 people remain displaced either internally or in neighboring countries. Thousands of children who remain associated with armed forces and groups need to be released and reintegrated into their communities. Rising food insecurity will lead to an increased proportion of the population in emergency or crisis levels of food insecurity, as well as a higher proportion of children with acute malnutrition: an estimated 39,000 children under 5 years will suffer from severe acute malnutrition (SAM). In 2016, UNICEF CAR will need US $55.6 million dollars to provide critical life-saving services to internally displaced and conflict-affected people.
