Cycling Proficiency Well done to all of our Year 6 pupils who successfully completed their cycling proficiency training. Thank you to Mrs Everson, Mrs Biss and Mrs Carrington for helping out.

Cathedral Day This year’s Cathedral Day was open to all Key Stage 2 pupils so we were able to take all 53 pupils to enjoy a day of workshops held in the cathedral building. Along with pupils from five other schools, they learnt about some of the Old Testament Prophets through art, dance, drama and craft workshops. The children filled the nave for the final celebration and enjoyed hearing the organ being played at full volume.

Packed Lunches Home packed lunches have received quite a lot of attention in the press recently and we thought The Children’s Food Trust guidelines might be helpful to parents. Meals provided by caterers in schools are subject to strict rules regarding fat, sugar and salt content. As you will know we changed our provider last April and believe that we are offering an improved standard of meals. We want to ensure that all of our children enjoy a healthy lunch whether it is provided in school or brought from home.

For parents making up packed lunches, the Children's Food Trust recommends they include a piece of food from each of the following categories:  starchy foods like bread, pasta or potatoes  fruit and veg, for example sticks of cucumber, celery or carrot, alongside a piece of fruit  meat, fish, eggs and beans - strips of chicken or bean dips  dairy food such as cheese in a sandwich or a yoghurt or fromage frais  a drink - water is the best choice for children's teeth, if you want to pack fruit juice, stick to a 150ml portion Foods and drinks high in saturated fat, sugar and/or salt, like crisps and chocolate biscuits, should be avoided. Break time snacks for Key Stage 2 children should be fruit or a muesli bar, not crisps or chocolate.

School Dinners Please be aware that Honey Roast Gammon on the current menu will be replaced with beef for the time being. Happy Birthday to; Gil 11 on 17th Harlen 5 on 21st Rosie H 9 on 23rd Talia 5 on 24th Oliver R 10 on 30th Rosie B 11 on 31st

Reminder - RSPB Community Nature Event On Tuesday 17th October 3.15-4.15pm, we will be running our second Community Nature Event for children and their families. This session is titled ‘Autumn’. We look forward to you joining us. Food Bank We are collecting food donations for the Great Yarmouth Food Bank. The items will be collected by the Salvation Army at our Harvest Festival on 19th October. If you can add an extra item to your weekly shop and drop it into the box in the school entrance, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Parent Evenings A reminder Parents’ evening will be running on Monday 16th Oct 3.30-7pm and Wednesday 18th Oct 3.30-5pm. You should, by now, have received an appointment slip via your child’s bag. Clubs Due to parents’ evening Nature club will not run on Wednesday 18th October. All other clubs will run as normal apart from running club which has now finished for all children except those who qualify for the Cross Country Finals – your child will be told if they are required to attend training on Monday 16th October. All other running training will take place during the school day. For clubs after half term please see the list at the end of this newsletter. KS2 Football and Hockey will continue for the first two weeks after half term, by which time it will be too dark to run

outside clubs. We are planning on running a Christmas club starting in November – details will be sent home once confirmed. Car Park Safety Please slow down when you drive through the village and into the car park at the beginning and end of the school day. Our children are very precious to us and we would like to keep them safe. Thank you.

Good Work Oak Tia for producing a fantastically detailed setting for the playscript she wrote based on the gunpowder plot, using lots of great vocabulary and using punctuation correctly. Freya for using fantastic detail when producing an imagined dialogue between King James and Guy Fawkes. It was so engaging and very well punctuated. Rosie for using good detail when describing the clothing worn by a plague doctor. She made great word choices and joined her writing consistently. James for playing some brilliant football in PE and scoring a thunderbolt of a goal. He worked hard on his skills and his positional play. Grace and Ben for producing excellent sets of instructions for some of the playground games in Bruegel’s painting. They chose precise, high level vocabulary and explained the rules and instructions very clearly. Beech Macy for independent work in creation of her panpipe – nominated by Mrs Brocklehurst. Summer for her enthusiasm and contributions in lessons especially maths and our lesson on the Mayan number system. Leah, nomitated by Mrs Dix for her engagement and enjoyment of the dance at the cathedral and also her contribution in our lesson on the Mayan number system. Sienna –Mae and Rosie for working exceptionally well as a pair in a group supported by Mr Branch, to make 3D shapes

from Geomag before identifying the faces, edges and vertices. Jacob – he has impressed this week in all areas, contributing very well in lessons. Within written work, he has tried hard to work on areas of improvement between first and second draft. Chestnut Imogen for good work when creating symmetrical patterns. Evie for using adjectives in her writing. Louis for showing great enthusiasm during our topic lessons about the skeleton and internal organs. Kani for writing some good questions in literacy and remembering to use question marks. Finley DG for working independently to sort shapes using a Venn Diagram. George for good teamwork in the classroom. Sycamore Freddie for good participation in our sound work. Alice for good counting when learning about the bones in our hands. Cooper for always being a kind friend to others in the class. River for good work in PE throwing the ball in the goal. Florence for good writing of letters and reading key words. Eloise for good participation in our GR8 as UR activities.
