Create INTEREST in the subject: “What are we going to talk about?” Young Preschoolers: Say the following rhyme with your child. Hold up one (hold up one finger) God sent his Son Hold up two (hold up two fingers) Because He loves you Hold up three (hold up three fingers) Jesus cares for me! After saying the rhyme a couple of times, hold up your Bible and say, “The Bible says God sent his son Jesus. Thank you God for Jesus.” Older Preschoolers/Children: Look for a picture of your child when they were first born. Look at the picture and talk about how exciting it was the day they were born. Talk about all that you did to get ready for their birth. Talk about bringing them home and how you felt when they came home from the hospital. 2. INVESTIGATE God’s Word: “What does the Bible say about it?” When you love someone you want everyone to meet them and get to know them. God loved his son and he loves you. He wanted to share Jesus with everyone. Read Luke 2:10-11. “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy. It is for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.’” Just like we were excited the day you were born, Mary and Joseph, and the angels were excited when Jesus was born. Jesus was born for a special purpose just like you were born for a special purpose. Ask, how would you feel if the angels had appeared to you and old you about the birth of Jesus? Do you think Mary and Joseph were proud parents? 3. Discuss personal IMPACT: “What difference will it make in my life?” Say, God had planned for Jesus to be born as a baby here on earth. He loved us so much his plan was to send Jesus to be born, grow and live here on earth, and be our Savior. We celebrate Jesus’ birth at Christmas time. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is we can always be reminded of God’s great love for us. If you saw baby Jesus, who would you tell? Why? How does it make you feel knowing that God loved you so much he sent Jesus to earth? How can our family share God’s love of Jesus with others?
4. PRAY with your children related to this discussion. Spend time thanking God for loving us and for sending Jesus to the earth.
