W E L C O M E Thank you for coming to First Presbyterian Church of Orlando this morning! So glad you’re here. We worship together as a church family in four services on Sundays: Traditional worship in the Sanctuary at 8:30 and 11am, and Genesis worship in Lee Fellowship Hall at 9:45am and 11am. If you’d like to connect and learn more about this church family, someone will be available at the front of the room after worship, or you can visit fpco.org/guest. This morning, if you are a visitor and would like to learn more about this community and our membership process, please join us after the 11am worship service in the Legacy Room for First Step, a 30 minute overview of life at First Pres. A pastor will be available to share information and answer any questions you may have. An usher or anyone with a blue nametag can direct you.

THIS WEEK Joy and freedom come when we put the needs of others in front of our own. If you know someone who loves to bring Christ’s love to those who are hurting, they could be a great Stephen Minister. We are currently accepting nominations for the upcoming training class in January. Nominate yourself or someone else for this unique ministry at fpco.org/stephen, or call Tammas Smith at 407.423.3441 x1455.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow for this year’s Christmas production, God in Time! December 13 at 4pm, the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando Chancel Choir and orchestra will present this extraordinary journey of Christmas, starting before the existence of time. Bring friends and coworkers, and share the story of Jesus’ birth as part of a much grander story of creation. Tickets will be on sale Sundays in the lobby of the Edington Ministry Center, where you can choose your seats. (cash or check only) During the week, purchase your tickets online or learn more at fpco.org/concert.

COMING UP The next Young At Heart luncheon is Friday, December 4, and we look forward to catching up with you! Fellowship begins at 10:30am, and lunch is served at noon. NOTES

W O R S H I P

Whether we realize it or not, a significant part of our spiritual formation comes via hymns. One of the most significant, profound, theological hymns you learned as a child was Jesus Loves Me. The four verses of our opening hymn have a specific structure with each verse highlighting the work of that member of the Trinity, the first verse singing of the Father, the second verse the Son, and the third verse the Holy Spirit. The final verse addresses the Trinity in the unity of the godhead. The hymn sung in the 8:30 service, Lord, You Give the Great Commission, was written by Jeffery Rowthorn, a Yale Divinity School professor. You will note each verse begins with a statement of Christ’s words or actions followed by the appropriate scriptural quote. The second half of each stanza is a prayer pertaining that which was just stated. Then, each verse concludes with the text “with the Spirit’s gifts empower us for the work of ministry.” The closing hymn in worship is a testimony to the biblical truth that no one has ever achieved spiritual greatness apart from brokenness and complete, total surrender to God. The Lord completely abandoned himself for us and asks us to do the same in our walk with Him. Don’t miss the significance of the theological contribution of hymns in worship. We are not singing songs, we are singing faith.
