NOTES

TRADITIONAL When Jesus was asked “What is the greatest commandment?”, His response was to “love God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.” In worship we are endeavoring to love God in those ways. Our hearts, our minds, and our very souls are to be consciously engaged in each aspect of worship. Christianity is not simply a religion of feeling or spiritual experience. Theological substance is foundational to our worship. God is invisibly present with us in this sanctuary this morning. Our opening hymn sings of the many characteristics of God, at least twenty-seven to be exact! I often ask the question, if we based our theology only on the content of the hymns we sing, what would we learn of our God? This hymn would be a major contributor. Using our minds as well as our hearts is a part of healthy, growing worship. The closing Choral Response today, Shalom, Shalom, Shalom, is a reminder of the Jewish roots of Christianity. We concluded the High Holy days this past week and tomorrow begins the Feast of Tabernacles. - Dr. Dan Sharp
