Eating first before going for eid prayers Anas bin Malik said: “Rasulullah s.a.w. will not leave the house before eating dates first, (and he eats them) in odd numbers (three, or five, or seven pieces).” (Bukhari)

Taking a bath before leaving house It is sunnah to bathe eidulfitri. The way to do it is to make the following intention (niat) and then bathe as per normal. ‫َسلَ لِعِ يْ ِد ال ِفطْر سنة هلل تعلى‬ ْ ‫نَوَيْتُ الغ‬ Nawaitul ghosla li-‘eidil fitri sunnatan lillAahi ta’aala Meaning: “I intend to bathe for eidulfitri for Allah ta’ala”.

Wearing perfume and the best clothes This is to be done based on what the individual can afford. Never look down on other people’s clothes that are less beautiful.   Promptly make way to the mosque on the morning of eidulfitri   Bringing the whole family to the mosque to enliven the symbols (syiar) of Islam in the morning of eidulfitri. This includes women and children.

Reciting takbir on the way to the mosque It is encouraged to increase recitation of takbir including throughout the journey to the mosque, and while waiting for performing eidulfitri until the end of eid prayers.

  To walk a different path when coming to the mosque, and returning to the mosque. Jabir r.a. said that Rasulullah s.a.w. would usually change the route towards the mosque and when returning during eid. (Bukhari)

Listening to khutbah after eid prayers. This is done with full appreciation and humility.   To greet each other and to pray for one another It is highly encouraged for Muslims to visit their friends and family, shaking hands and praying for each other with the doa:

‘taqobalallOohu Minnaa waminkum’ Meaning: “May Allah accept our deeds and yours”.
