Position Title:

FBCG Resident

Location:

Chicago, IL

Classification:

Full time salaried exempt

The Family Business Consulting Group, Inc., is driven by its mission to provide the world’s best care and counsel to multigenerational family enterprises on issues of management, governance, communication and decision making.

The FBCG Resident program is intended to provide graduates of advanced degree programs in disciplines related to family business who have a strong career interest in family business consulting with up to two years of work experience, mentoring and development. The program is structured to allow participants to apply their knowledge in their field of expertise while gaining experience in a consulting practice. Each FBCG Resident is a full-time, salaried, benefit-eligible, employee of the firm. Near the conclusion of the first year, the FBCG Resident may be invited to apply to continue their residency for an additional year.

The FBCG Resident will work from the company’s Chicago headquarters under the direction of the Executive Team on projects that apply the Resident’s academic knowledge to support the firm’s efforts to educate and serve client families. Through this work, Residents will gain exposure to a wide variety of concepts that will support their development as consultants. In addition, it is anticipated that they will team with FBCG consultants on client engagements, applying their knowledge and gaining experience as a practitioner, in preparation for independent consulting projects as they move beyond the residency program. Activities may include: 

Reviewing, editing, and preparing articles and other educational pieces.

Preparing reading materials, presentations and other materials for client or public presentations.

Representing The Family Business Consulting Group at family business events as an attendee, speaker or moderator.

Supporting and working closely with consultants throughout client engagements.

Facilitating initial conversations with potential client families.

Researching on family business trends and practices.

Supporting development of FBCG’s practice areas.

Participating in firm-wide educational events.

Developing tools, references and resources to support consultants and clients.

Candidates that demonstrate the following criteria are encouraged to apply: 

Advanced academic degree in a discipline related to family business (Masters or Ph.D. in strategy, management, business, finance, communication, organization development, or another academic discipline directly relevant to family business consulting). A review of the bios of the firm’s current members posted on our company’s website will provide you with the very wide range of disciplines from which we recruit.

Exposure to and familiarity with family business concepts.

Strong interest in working with family enterprises as a career goal.

High level of personal drive, professionalism, learning orientation, and collaboration.

Applicants should expect up to 25% travel for events, presentations and client engagements.

In keeping with the firm’s principles and with an eye to avoiding potential conflicts of interest, members of The Family Business Consulting Group client families will not be eligible for consideration.
