CENTRAL WOODLANDS MUSIC DEPARMENT NEWSLETTER

Music in Middle School

Summer Camps Here is information regarding some of the area music camps available to our students Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp (www.bluelake.org)

Soon it will be time for your child to register for classes next year at CMS. We hope that you are considering enrolling in music during 7th grade. Here are some important reasons to stay involved in Central’s music program:

MASTA Strings Camp (www.mastastringcamps.com)

Every Student Succeeds Act (which replaces No Child Left Behind) has included music as an important core subject area. At CHS, all students are required a fine arts credit and participating in music will be a great way to fulfill this requirement. Music allows us to explore the world through sound. It is a vehicle for students to develop their self-expression and creativity. Participation in music helps develop self-discipline and provides the opportunity to work as a member of a team. Music helps in the development of eye-hand coordination and aural (hearing) skills. Being a member of a musical ensemble can also help increase selfesteem and provide opportunities to develop leadership skills. Consistent participation in your child’s music ensemble benefits the individual and the group as they build upon their skills each year.

Knollcrest Music Camp

Remember: Keep practicing regularly at home

We know there are many elective choices at the middle school, but we hope you appreciate the value of continuing your child’s music education.
