February 12, 2018 PELHAM HIGH INDOOR TRACK ATHLETES SOAR AT STATE MEET

The Pelham High School Indoor Track Teams recently wrapped up a successful season at the AHSAA State Championships. The girls team finished as 6A State Runner Up, and the boys team ranked 11th. Among the highlights of the meet were Katie Strozier earning the 6A 800 Meter State Champion title, along with State Runner Up in the 1600 Meter event, and 3rd place in the 400 Meter event. Erin Long earned 3rd place in the Long Jump, and girls team members Alex Wilkins, Madilyn Dubose, Brooke Monti, and Katie Strozier placed 2nd in 4 x 800 Meter relay. Boys team members Dominic Fanella, Garrett Stonicher, Adam Keller, and Xavien Harris placed 3rd in the 4 x 800 Meter relay, and Adam Keller earned a 3rd place finish in the 3200 Meter run. PELHAM HIGH STUDENTS EARN HIGH MARKS IN STATE CULINARY COMPETITION After weeks of preparation and practicing, Culinary Academy students from Pelham High

participated in the Alabama ProStart Culinary Competition on February 3. Pelham's team placed 2nd among thirteen culinary teams from high schools across the state at the event hosted at the Jefferson State Culinary Institute. The intense competition evaluated students' efforts on taste, teamwork, safety, and sanitation as they prepared dishes that highlighted their skills and creative abilities in the kitchen. Congratulations to Chef Allen and all the students who participated and supported the team!

PELHAM PARK MIDDLE STUDENTS TURN UP THE HEAT IN COOKING COMPETITION In other culinary news, members of FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America) at Pelham Park Middle School took tasty to the next level in a Cook-Off Competition on February 2. Students prepared distinctive dishes in the categories of Beef, Chicken, and Dairy for a panel of judges to taste and evaluate. All of the dishes were delicious, and students with the top-scoring recipes will now move on to represent Pelham Park Middle at the Shelby County Cook-Off.

REMINDER: INCLEMENT WEATHER MAKE UP DAY SET

FOR FEBRUARY 19 Pelham City Schools were closed on Friday, December 8, 2017 due to snow and hazardous road conditions. The governor did not declare a State of Emergency on that day. Therefore, according to state law, local school systems are required to make up the day. Pelham City Schools has designated Monday, February 19 as the required make-up day for the instructional time missed on December 8. All faculty, staff, and students should be in attendance at school on February 19, 2018.

Proposed Zoning Changes At the January school board meeting, proposed changes to zoning plans that will affect K-5 students in the neighborhoods on the CR-35 corridor were discussed. Community meetings were held on February 8 & 12 to discuss the plans and answer questions. Jump Rope for Heart & Blood Drive at Pelham Oaks Wednesday, February 14 Parents are invited to attend Jump Rope for Heart during their child's PE time to watch, jump, turn a rope, and cheer on students. The LifeSouth Blood Mobile will be set up outside the school to accept donations from 8 am - 3 pm. Inclement Weather Make Up Day Monday, February 19 All faculty, staff, and students should be in attendance at school to make up for instructional time missed on December 8, 2017. PHS Pre-Registration Night for Current Pelham Park 8th Graders Wednesday, February 28 at 6 pm Pelham High School Auditorium PHS counselors will present information for parents of students who will be entering 9th grade in 2018-2019. Topics will include graduation requirements, course selection, and other opportunities for students entering high school. Board of Education Meeting Monday, February 26 at 6:30 pm Pelham High School Auditorium Pelham Day of Pageants Saturday, March 3 Pelham High School Auditorium Pageants will take place throughout the day for the following age groups: 3-5K (Pre-K),
