FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME

THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME The Varkey Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established to improve the standards of education for underprivileged children throughout the world. Our mission is that every child should have a good teacher. We do this through building teacher capacity, advocacy campaigns to promote excellence in teaching practice at the highest levels of policy making and providing grants to partner organisations that offer innovative solutions in support of our mission. We are currently delivering programmes in Ghana, Uganda and Argentina which focus on improving learner outcomes through developing teacher and school leader capacity to transform schools. As part of our advocacy programs, the Varkey Foundation hosts The Global Education and Skills Forum annually in Dubai. The event brings together world leaders from the public, private and social sectors seeking solutions to achieving education, equity and employment for all. Each year, the Forum focuses on a particular theme, and 2017’s theme was ‘how do we make ‘real’ global citizens?’. Last year, the forum attracted around 2,000 delegates, including around 40 Ministers of Education and Heads of State. The event culminates in the awarding of the Global Teacher Prize, a million-dollar prize for a teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession. For more information about the conference, please visit www.educationandskillsforum.org

A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY The Varkey Foundation is excited to offer two paid Fellowships from September 2017 to August 2018 for individuals with a passion for making a difference in education and an interest in providing support across the Foundation’s key activities. The Fellowship will pay an annual salary of £27,000 - £30,000 (dependent on experience) and will include opportunities for international travel. The Varkey Foundation is headquartered in London but team members have the option to work from home for up to four days a week. On Wednesdays, all team members are required to work from the London office. This opening provides Fellows with an intensive learning opportunity to deepen their understanding of the education and philanthropy sector. From January until March, Fellows will work closely with the Global Education and Skills Forum organising team, giving them a unique opportunity to support the production of a significant international education event and to engage with leading education thinkers from around the world.
