Fire Damages two homes in Danville

DANVILLE, CA – The San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District responded to two single story structure fires located at 206 and 212 Farm Hill Court in Danville early this morning, November 17, 2009 at 1:42 a.m. A total of six engines, two trucks, one paramedic ambulance, three chief officers, and one fire investigator were dispatched to the scene. Crews from Station 31 arrived to find both homes involved with fire. In one of the homes the fire had spread into the attic. Firefighters immediately began a simultaneous aggressive offensive interior and exterior attack on these two homes. The fire was contained in a little over twenty minutes.

“The fire appears to have started outside between the two homes,” said Battalion Chief Jack Barton. The homeowner indicated that ashes from a fireplace were discarded earlier in the day. Investigators are looking into this statement as they attempt to determine cause. One Firefighter sustained minor injuries. The Firefighter was treated at a local hospital and released back to full duty. The structures sustained an estimated $130,000 in damage and $100,000 in content loss. San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District reminds residents to allow ashes to cool before removing them from the fireplace. Remember to dispose of ashes in an approved closed metal container; fill the container with water and store outside your home.
