Air travel with an avalanche r­ escue backpack According to the international air transport regulations, avalanche rescue backpacks are classed as dangerous goods. For a trouble-free journey with your ava­ lanche rescue backpack, please observe the following points: • Per passenger, one avalanche rescue backpack with corresponding cartridge is allowed. • Always carry the pressure cartridge in the corresponding avalanche rescue backpack. • No spare cartridges allowed. • The cartridge must be placed inside the avalanche backpack in the ­compartment intended for this purpose. • The cartridge must not be screwed onto the airbag system to avoid unintentional activation. • Avalanche rescue backpacks are allowed in hand luggage or hold luggage. • Please register your avalanche rescue backpack with your airline before your flight.

Your avalanche rescue backpack must also fulfil the following technical require­ ments: • Cartridge containing compressed gas in division 2.2. • Pyrotechnic trigger mechanism ­containing less than 200 mg net of ­division 1.4S. • The airbags within the backpacks must be fitted with pressure relief valves. Please contact the manufacturer of your avalanche rescue backpack for the ­required technical information. The above-mentioned requirements may differ depending on your destination or airline. Please contact your airline for ­further information. In case of non-compliance with the ­regulations, the avalanche rescue ­backpack and pressure cartridge have to be removed from your luggage.
