January 23, 2016

Dear Friends, Welcome to our 2016 Auction Gala. A special evening has been prepared for your enjoyment. I extend a sincere thank you to all of you attending this evening. I know that you join me in expressing great pride and thanksgiving for all that our parish and school offer to our community. Our parish and school are the building blocks of our faith. On a night like this we are reminded of how blest we are. Past generations put down a sound foundation and it is on this holy ground that we continue to build for future generations. With your prayers and heartfelt support our parish and school will continue to be a guiding light in our community. I extend a sincere thank you to all who worked so hard in any way to make this event possible. Your months of planning and attention to detail are appreciated. A special word of thanks and expression of appreciation is in order for our co-chairs Ann Marie Guntli and Bridgette Fyvie; your leadership and guidance created this exciting evening. Without your willingness to chair this Gala we would not be here tonight. On behalf of the committee I also express a sincere thank you to all in attendance this evening. Your support provides building blocks for a bright future. Great things do happen when God mixes with the people of St. Stephen Protomartyr.

Peace,

Fr. Ron Hopmeir, Pastor

GENERAL INFORMATION Specific rules for Oral and Silent Auctions, Sign-Up Parties, and Raffles are found in the book before the sections listing those items. General Auction Rules: • • •

All sales are final. There will be no refunds or exchanges. Payment for items auctioned is mandatory on January 23, 2016. All goods and services purchased at the Gala will be used at the sole risk of the purchaser, and neither the Gala nor St. Stephen Protomartyr will be responsible for any damage or injury occurring to any user of said purchased goods and services. All items are sold as-is.

Express Pay: No checking out is needed at the end of the evening, no waiting, no lines, no hassle. Present a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover debit/credit card at the Cashier’s office before 8:30 p.m. Your purchases are charged to your debit/credit card and a final statement will be mailed to you. If you do not sign up for Express Pay, payment must be collected at the Cashier after 10 p.m. Payments are accepted as cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit cards.

All goods are to be taken home with the successful bidder at the close of the auction. Successful bidders on items such as dinners and services will be given a certificate for that item. We expect that Gala guests will drink responsibly. However, we will arrange transportation home for anyone who requests it.

We have made every effort to provide you with accurate information. We regret any errors or omissions.

The Gala Committee would like to take a moment to thank every person who touched this event, from the rectory staff to the school faculty to the students, parents, parishioners, alumni, donors, and friends of St. Stephen Protomartyr. This event would not be possible without you. We especially want to thank Amanda Quinn, Michel Wendell, Mary Regan, Barb Edelmann, Fr. Ron, Victoria Hatfield, Stephanie Wobbe, Ellen Kunkelmann, and the Holy Name Society. This event is the culmination of our community’s time, talent, and treasure. We are proud to present the 2016 Auction Gala: “Everybody Have Fun Tonight.” Have a totally radical evening!

FUND-A-NEED: MATH CURRICULUM Every seven years our schools in the St. Louis Archdiocese must go through a School Improvement Process that reviews three issues – Catholic Identity, Education and Facilities, and Finance. St. Stephen Protomartyr will start the process with meetings this spring and will begin the School Improvement Process in earnest this fall. While preparing for this, we chose to look closely at our Math Curriculum because our textbooks have not been updated in a long time. Additionally, we would like to integrate practices from STEM and Robotics that we have added to our school’s curriculum recently. The last time this upgrade was done was in 2002, so there is a definite need at this time. This year’s Fund-a-Need will focus on upgrading the math curriculum for the school. Our school continues to thrive with increased enrollment and a variety of programming and services for our students. In order to remain competitive with other schools in the city of St. Louis, St. Stephens must continue to strive for the best academic standards. Our goal of raising $10,000 at this year’s Gala will support the upgrade in math curriculum for K-8 students at St. Stephen Protomartyr School. During the Fund-A-Need auction, our auctioneers will start the bidding at the level of $500 and work their way down through descending pre-set donation levels. Those wishing to contribute $500 to the math curriculum will raise their bid cards until their numbers have been recorded. We will then move on to the next level and invite bids. These bids will be recorded as purchases and added to your statement before checkout. The idea behind this type of auction is to invite the participation of all guests, with levels of donation ranging from $500 down to $25.

ORAL AUCTION RULES The oral auction will begin at 8:30 p.m. and will continue until all items have been sold. Your bid number is on a card in your packet. Bidders are asked to hold this number up when bidding for items in the Oral Auction. Only your number will be accepted. You may not use someone else’s number. The auctioneer will give a brief description of each item before it is auctioned. If you are the winning bidder, a bid sheet will be brought to you for your signature. The purchase will be added to your statement and delivered to your table. The list of Oral Auction items begins below. Donor names and approximate values, if known, are given after the descriptions of the items.
