Free Spirit Media Job Title: Part-Time Summer Workforce Coordinator (Temporary) Reports To: Pathways Manager (PM) Summary The FSM Summer Workforce Coordinator (SWC) plays a key role in the development and support of Free Spirit Media’s emerging creative young adults. The SWC holds a seasonal role on the Industry Pathways program team--- FSM’s creative workforce development initiative that provides underrepresented emerging media-makers ages 18-25 with professional development, production and skills training, mentorship and work-placed opportunities. This dynamic individual will lead the professional development, career and internship support services and individual engagement for participants in FSM’s summer workforce programs, including Flash Forward and FSM’s summer Program Assistants. The SWC role is inclusive of mentorship,, advocacy, programming, and administrative tasks and duties. To be successful, the SWC needs to be an expert relationship builder, a strong professional role model, and committed to helping youth from marginalized communities and identities find success in their careers and lives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities        

Work with PM to plan and execute the Flash Forward Summer Internship program, overseeing recruitment, enrollment, and professional development support services and supporting in program design, event coordination, and community and partner engagement. Plan and execute Professional Development workshops (resume, job and interview preparedness, personal pitching) for Industry Pathways, Flash Forward and other FSM programs between May and August of 2018. Oversee Industry Pathways member administration through onboarding and orientation of new participants; tracking experience, engagement and progression through participant database and managing administrative records required for program and partner needs. Work with Industry Pathways Associate and Outreach Ambassador to facilitate communication channels, materials and networks (social, newsletter, blog, etc.) to engage Industry Pathways participants in opportunities, resources, and engagement. Work with the PM to connect participants to a network of internship, workforce, freelance, and community partners in the film and media, workforce development sectors. Support the PM and the PA in deepening engagement and activation of alumni network Support collection and organization of evaluation data collection, surveys and assist in preparation of grant and organizational required reporting. Function as point of contact for information and troubleshooting for After School Matters & One Summer Chicago Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

Qualifications & Experience:

 

Bachelor's degree or higher level preferred. Experience in academic and/ or career advising and/or counseling. Minimum two years professional administrative experience. Experience working in a non-profit or education setting preferred. Ability to create, plan, organize and implement initiatives. Strong customer service and relationship-building skills. Ability to effectively communicate verbally. Demonstrated ability to advise teens and young adults of diverse backgrounds and needs in an educational setting. Experience in diverse and inclusive work environment; social justice training preferred. Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. A positive attitude and strong work ethic. Knowledge of basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Experience teaching and/or managing an After School Matters program a plus. Familiarity with professional development curriculum such as MHA Labs a plus.

Work Requirements: This is a temporary, part-time position with a possible option for permanent status beyond Summer 2018. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. Regular access to a car is required. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs is required. Must pass DCFS background check.
