Fundamentals of Project Management Objectives This course is designed to introduce people to the philosophy and benefits of project management within an organisation. On completion of this course, participants will be able to: • Understand the nature and scope of projects and the need for project management • Produce project plans • Produce project schedules • Produce project budgets • Identify the contribution of effective human resource management on project outcomes • Develop basic management tools to effectively manage project objectives. Course Content • The need for project management • Project Planning • Project Scheduling • Project Estimating • Project Cost Control • The human elements of project management. Course Lecturers Mark Massyn qualified as a Construction Manager has worked in the construction industry, as a project manager in the mining industry and as a project manager in the consulting engineering profession. He has also worked as a management consultant in the mining, utilities and manufacturing industries on project management and management systems. He is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Construction Economics and Management at the University of Cape Town. Paul Bowen PhD, a Registered Project Manager, is a Professor and former Head of the Department of Construction Economics and Management at UCT. He is a nationally-rated researcher and a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa. His professional and academic experience relating to the construction and property industries has resulted in more than 130 publications. His research interests include project procurement, communication, sustainability, value management, and the cost modelling of buildings. Dates: Time: Cost:
