ABOUT SUFFOLK YOUNG PEOPLE‟S HEALTH PROJECT We provide and coordinate services that improve the social, emotional, and physical health and wellbeing of young people aged 12-25 in Suffolk. Also known as ‘4YP’, we are a local charity operating from Ipswich town centre throughout the county. Last year, we supported over 12,700 contacts. Offering advice, guidance, practical support, and informal education, we provide intervention and prevention support for issues identified by young people. Provided for free, the support we provide is vital to thousands of young people each year. However, to continue our vital work, we rely on the support of kind people like you.

Do you want to do something to raise money, or volunteer to help out? This guide is your first step to success. If you still have questions, or to tell us about what you’re planning, please contact Karl, our Fundraising and Communications Officer on: [email protected]

WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MEANS TO US Every penny you raise will go directly towards supporting young people by funding the services that improve their health and wellbeing. Our services include: youth work – group work, intensive 1:1 support, drop-in workshops, and fun activities; counselling; drug and alcohol advice and guidance; a nurse-run sexual health clinic; volunteering and work experience opportunities; shower, kitchen, laundry, IT facilities; a reused-clothes store, including outfits appropriate for job interviews.

Quote from a young person’s parent

From cookery sessions, and games that promote exercise, to voluntary work on care farms, we have a range of projects that support young people in so many different ways.

Activities and services help young people to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, resilience, aspirations, and coping mechanisms required to live healthily, stay safe, engage in positive relationships, make informed choices, move away from exploitation or harm, and access improved opportunities for educational or economic attainment.

EASY WAYS TO SUPPORT 4YP Want to help us but short on time? Or maybe the idea of all that training for a funrun doesn’t appeal. No problem. Here are some really good, easy ways you can support us with almost no effort.

RAISE DONATIONS FOR FREE SHOPPING ONLINE WITH

www.thegivingmachine.co.uk Choose Suffolk Young People’s Health Project. Use the site to find participating stores and each time you shop online, they make a donation. Download the ‘Shop&Give’ reminder to make it even easier.

MAKE www.everyclick.com YOUR INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE Simply register, make Suffolk Young People‟s Health Project your chosen charity, and search as normal. It works the same as any other search engine, just like Google. Every search you make adds up to pennies, and those pennies slowly build to pounds.

“SELL FOR CHARITY” AT www.ebay.co.uk Link to our eBay account and when you sell, they transfer the donation.

Sometimes we need people to help. When we are involved with a fundraising event, it often requires a number of people working together to be successful. These are usually very simple, but fun, roles. For example, collecting donations at the gate of an event, or helping to pack bags at a supermarket. If you are able to join us for a few hours occasionally, we’d love to hear from you. Just tell us your name, email address, and telephone number and when we’re in need of volunteers, we’ll contact you.

Don’t worry if you can’t help that time – there’s absolutely no obligation. And better yet – volunteering looks great on your CV and increases your sense of wellbeing. PAGE 3

We can make good use of your unwanted items such as stationery, clothing, handyman skills. or foodstuff (in date). Items that are in good condition, new, or nearly-new make great draw prizes. If you’re not planning a tombola or raffle of your own, we’d be happy to use your donations for one of ours. Maybe you have a certain skill, or professional expertise. This could be immensely useful to us. Legal or accounting advice are good examples.

We can now get donations recycling mobile „phones and home-use ink cartridges or photocopier toners. So, if you can want to get rid of an old mobile „phone or empty ink cartridges, please let us know. We can accept cartridges from Lexmark, Canon, Hewlett Packard, Neopost, Samsung, or Dell (but sadly not any refillable ones).

Please get in contact to arrange a meeting, or for dropping off/collecting your donations. PAGE 4

if you’re using a collection bucket, don’t shake it – just stand still and let people approach you if they want. Also, you might need a licence from the local council. Just give them a call, they’ll be happy to help; BE SAFE. Whatever you’re planning to do, tell people. Make sure you have a way to contact someone in an emergency. Preferably, don’t do anything alone. If you’re thinking of taking on a dangerous challenge – like a bungee jump – only do it with a reputable company with the correct safety measures in place; make sure people know you are fundraising on behalf of Suffolk Young People’s Health Project (either when speaking to them, or with a notice); include our registered charity number (1084286) on your promotional materials, such as posters. PROMOTION Fundraising and volunteering for Suffolk Young People’s Health Project helps us in many ways. It helps us raise money, lets people know what we do, and aids us in supporting more and more young people, their families, and Suffolk’s communities. We really appreciate it. So, when you‟re supporting us, tell people. It doesn’t need to cost a thing. Make posters, tell your friends and family, put up posters, spread the word on social media and websites, write to local newspapers and village magazines…

This will all help to encourage more people to take part in your event, or sponsor you.

AND DON’T FORGET TO TELL US This is important. If we know when you‟re organising or taking part in an event or activity, it gives us chance to: help you to promote it; give you any other information that might be important; provide support materials that could help, such as sponsorship forms; decide how would be best for you to pass us the money you raise, and agree when to do it.

01473 252607 So, get in touch and let us know any details you think are relevant – date, time, place, and what your event involves. It’s always useful for us to know your contact details, and really appreciate any appropriate pictures you take during your fundraiser. It helps us to show other people what you have done, and say ‘than you’. Take a look at the photographs in this guide for some ideas.

[email protected] www.4yp.org.uk

We have a calendar of planned events that you could take part in as a fundraiser, so if you’re stuck for ideas, get in touch and maybe we can offer some inspiration.
