Inclusive trade, social supports and shift to a sustainable economy key to addressing youth jobs crisis Hamburg, Germany (July 7, 2017). The organization representing the world’s young entrepreneurs today supported the B20’s call for the G20 leaders to work more cooperatively in the face of global issues. The G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance (YEA) joined the B20, the voice of the world’s established business community, in expressing concern that growing protectionism, isolation and disunity in the face of climate change will be detrimental to the world’s economies and societies. “We share the B20’s concern that the world needs more rule-based trade, increased mobility and more opportunity for people to thrive and prosper,” said Sara Lengauer on behalf of the G20 YEA Steering Committee, currently chaired by Germany. “In our summit held just a few weeks ago in Berlin, the world’s young entrepreneurs called on G20 leaders to adopt measures that address the social and economic challenges faced by young people. Now is the time to act together, not retreat.” More than 70 million young people across the world are estimated to be out of work, with youth unemployment rates topping 60% in some G20 jurisdictions. The Alliance has been working for the past several years to address this growing crisis by encouraging G20 governments to encourage and support young people to start their own businesses. In their communiqué, signed in Berlin prior to the Hamburg G20 Summit, the group called for the G20 Leaders to adopt progressive policy measures such as support for scaling up youth-led ventures, the creation of a separate tax category for young entrepreneurs working in priority areas of innovation and social entrepreneurship, and the establishment of a G20 Entrepreneur Visa Program to promote mobility. The G20 Young Entrepreneurs’ Alliance (G20 YEA) is the global network of young entrepreneurs and the organizations that support them. The Alliance was formed in 2010 in Toronto, Canada to be the voice of the world’s young entrepreneurs and to provide practical solutions for job creation and inclusive growth to G20 governments. The Alliance convenes each year in advance of the G20 Summit to champion the importance of young entrepreneurs to the G20 member nations and to share examples and best practices.
