Philadelphia Flyers: Head Coach and Player Bios Head Coach: John Stevens Stevens is in his fourth season as head coach after leading the Flyers to a 44-27-11 record for 99 points (3rd place - Atlantic Division, 5th place - Eastern Conference). The Flyers surpassed their totals in wins (44) and points (99) from 2007-08 and set a franchise record by finishing the regular season having allowed one shorthanded goal - previous record in a single season was two (1967-68, 1978-79). He was promoted from assistant coach on Oct. 22, 2006 and is the 16th head coach in Flyers history and 4th former Flyer to be named head coach (Paul Holmgren, Terry Murray, Bill Barber). In 2007-08, Stevens led the Flyers to the Eastern Conference Finals with a 4229-11 record (95 pts) - his first full season as head coach. They finished 39 pts and 20 wins ahead of their totals from 2006-07 - 39point turnaround was the most of any team in the NHL in 2007-08. For recognition of his work, he was named Coach of the Year by The Hockey News.
