Dear Horizon Christian Parents, Many incredible things are happening at Horizon Christian School! Therefore, we are going to celebrate what God has done at Horizon with an end of the year celebration event and fundraiser that will include the whole family. Staff, parents, teachers, and students are invited to come together to rejoice as a school family on Saturday, May 16th in an event called Robbie’s Run. This aptly named occasion involves a new and exciting partnership with the 8th annual Geist Half-Marathon! The Robbie’s Run theme is based on 1 Corinthians 9:24-27: Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

You may have noticed that we have been intentional about limiting our school fundraisers to a very few this year. We even chose to eliminate our annual auction held each May so that our main fundraiser for the 2014-2015 school year is Robbie’s Run. The purpose of annual fundraisers is to keep tuition costs low. We depend on additional funds gleaned from annual fundraisers to continue to provide a quality Christian education for our students. As such, we need everyone’s help in participating in the May 16th event. While we are partnering with the 8th Annual Geist Marathon, rest assured that I don’t expect everyone to run a full half-marathon. Most people are able to sign up for the 5K because participators are not required to run. You can walk the entire 5K (3 miles)! Those that are more zealous to go further distances can even walk the entire 10K (6 miles) or half-marathon (13 miles). The amount of time it takes runners/ walkers to complete the course is not important. What is important is that we are collectively doing this together as a team. All grade levels will be involved. We will group students into their respective classrooms and/or grade levels on the day of Robbie’s Run. For example, all of the 3rd graders will be gathered together as a class wearing the same color t-shirt to walk and/or run the 5K, 10K or half-marathon. Over the next several weeks, volunteer staff and parents (Krista Garrett, Brian Kerlin, Lora Stayton and Doug Brown) will organize various fitness classes and training schedules for you to participate in so that you can prepare yourself for the event. These encouraging trainers will prepare our Horizon team with property runs, exercises and stretches while offering moral support and accountability. The entire Horizon family will be invited to join in during training days. Furthermore, our PE Teachers will incorporate running exercises into the students’ curriculum to help prepare them for the race. I hope you will prayerfully consider participating in Running for Life as we will need all hands on deck to make this first event in Horizon’s history a success!

Here are three (3) participation options. Please circle which of these options best fits you and your family. Option 1: I want to participate in the Robbie’s Run event and I agree to help Horizon fundraise. My family will try to raise up to $200.00 through personalized fundraising pages sent out to friends, neighbors and family to support my families efforts at various levels. Under this option, Horizon will pay for each family member’s (up to 4 family members) registration fees. If your family has more than 4 family members, then it will cost you $30.00 per family member above the four members. Fundraising example: Your 3rd grade daughter will approach relatives, friends, or neighbors and ask them to support her at $7.00 for every mile that she runs or walks. In this scenario, she would receive a $21.00 donation from a friend or family member offering support. If your family is able to get a total of 10 of these $21.00 donations, your family has fulfilled its goal of $200.00. Option 2: I want to participate in the “Robbie’s Run” event, but I don’t want to fundraise. I agree to pay for each family member: The costs are: 5K 10K Half-marathon

$30.00 per person. $40.00 per person. $55.00 per person.

*****Please note, Horizon doesn’t get any of the registration money. Under Option 2, all of the money goes to the Geist Half-Marathon organization. Option 3: I will or will not participate (please circle either I will or I won’t) and I would like to pay for some families to participate in the event who can’t afford it. Please accept my donation amount of $_________________ to go towards other families in need, or please accept $_________________ as a general donation to go towards the school. In addition, we are the exclusive food and coffee vendor at the Geist Half Marathon and 5K event. Therefore, we will cook, prepare and sell the food that will feed the 6,000 participants and the 4,000 spectators supporting them. FYI, on Friday, March 13th, we are kicking off this event with a pep rally for the students at 2:30 pm and a parent meeting scheduled immediately following at 3:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. We are so excited about this event and all that it entails. If you have any questions, please contact Todd Melloh at 317-417-3525 or [email protected]. Thank you for your consideration and support.
