Welcome Families and Caregivers! We are excited to have you join us for the 6th Annual Gender Infinity Conference. Our team has been hard at work planning the details for the 2016 Conference for over a year now. This will be an opportunity for you to connect with other families, share your experiences, learn from leading experts in gender health, and contribute to the ever expanding knowledge base of families of transgender and gender diverse young people. We are excited that our conference has expanded this year to include numerous programs for parents on both Friday and Saturday. Programs for children and youth are again on Saturday only. Some topics are intended for those who want to learn and explore concepts that are still fairly new to them; however, other topics are intended for those who have attended a gender conference before and are looking for more advanced discussions and information. We hope you will find choices that will suit your family’s needs. For children and youth, we have multiple activities all day Saturday. These options are generally divided by age/developmental level, are supervised by trained volunteers, and include activities intended for children and for more mature youth. Workshops for high schoolers can be found at www.genderinfinity.org/schedule with "High Schoolers" listed after Audience. Unlike previous years, this year high schoolers will have more freedom to move about the conference and choose which workshops to attend, similar to adult attendees. Due to the nature of the activities, the "schedule" is more fluid than the parent programming. The activities may include but are not limited to the following:

High schoolers will be able to choose from several workshops to attend on Saturday. Workshops open to high schoolers will indicate this in the portion of the workshop description labeled "Audience".

Frequently Asked Questions 1. What should my child/youth wear? All youth are welcome in clothing most affirming of their gender. Play clothes for younger children are perfectly acceptable. 

6. Will there be gender neutral bathrooms? Of course! There will be all gender and gender specific bathrooms. There will also be several single stall, family­style restrooms.

2. What will the weather be like? Although it will be in September, Texas weather is unpredictable. It will be warm outside, but it may be cool inside the conference center, so plan accordingly. 

7. Will there be free parking? As a registered Conference attendee, you will receive a voucher to cover your parking Friday in the Welcome Center Student Garage or East Parking Garage. On Saturday, surface level parking is free and garage parking is $3

3. Will the conference be inside or outside? The sessions are all inside. Weather permitting; there may be supervised free time outside for the children/youth. 4. Will I need to bring lunch or snacks? Breakfast and lunch will be provided for everyone who preregisters before the registration deadline. If you are more comfortable bringing your own, please feel free to do so; however, there will be no place to store/refrigerate them.  5. Whom do I notify about my dietary restriction? If you did not list your dietary restrictions in the registration form, please email [email protected] at least one week before the conference. 

8. Should we bring anything? Feel free to bring anything that may make the day more comfortable, for example, a favorite blanket or stuffed animal. 9. What hotels are near the University of Houston? A list of nearby hotels is included in this packet. (pg. 12) 10. What if Spanish is my preferred language?
