Aluminum Wheel Coatings Systems Premium Powders Powder coatings are increasingly favored for many applications because of their durability, finish quality and environmental friendliness. PPG offers premium powder coatings for all three layers of a wheel coatings system, including: Primers Envirocron® powder primers by PPG are available in three high-quality formulations, including hybrid-polyester, conventional polyester and super-polyester compositions. Ultra-smooth and durable, Envirocron powder primers offer deep coverage, even in windowed areas, and provide a superior base for achieving high-quality finishes. Basecoats PPG’s super-durable, polyester bonded metallic powder coatings are made in a full range of metallic and straight-shade colors. They offer excellent coverage and are compatible with virtually any application technology. Clearcoats Enviracryl® acrylic powder coatings are formulated to provide excellent smoothness and flow characteristics during production, and superior clarity and weatherability as a finish coat. Often acknowledged as one of the world’s top automotive powder clearcoats, Enviracryl coatings are designed to meet the most stringent OEM specifications for wheels and other vehicle surfaces.
Leading Liquids PPG makes liquid basecoats and clearcoats in a full range of metallic finishes and custom colors. Every formulation is compatible with Envirocron powder primers and PPG liquid and powder clearcoats, enabling PPG to deliver a seamless, single-source supply of wheel coatings for every station on your coating line. In addition to being user friendly, PPG liquid coatings meet or surpass performance specifications for OEMs in every part of the world. Solvent-Borne Basecoats and Clearcoats There are four Spectracron® solvent-based acrylic coatings formulations designed for application to aluminum, steel and plastic substrates. Originally engineered for use with Spectracron liquid clearcoats, they also can be used in combination with Envirocron powder primers and Enviracryl powder clearcoats to deliver superior protection and color quality. Water-Borne Basecoats Aquacron® water-based coatings by PPG are formulated in four acrylic and acrylic-urethane compositions. Based on highly advanced liquid coating technologies, Aquacron coatings combine excellent durability, tough weatherability, high corrosion resistance and a broad color palette. Even better, environmentally advanced Aquacron coatings are HAPs-free and emit virtually no volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Steel Wheel Coatings
A Durable Mix of Pretreatment, Electrocoat and Liquid or Powder
Steel wheels last longer and look better with a PPG three-layer coatings system. PPG offers a variety of advanced pretreatment products that include CHEMFOS® zinc-phosphate coatings and X-BOND™ and ZIRCOBOND® zirconium-based products. The second layer includes POWERCRON® electrocoating products. As the industry’s pioneering electrocoating technology, Powercron e-coats set a high standard for superior corrosion resistance, edge protection and finish quality on automobile surfaces of every type. When your customers demand excellent steel wheel coatings, the only choice is PPG. The steel wheel is finished with a monocoat of Spectracron or Aquacron liquid coatings, or Envirocron powder coatings, delivering both durability and superior appearance. Formulations are designed specifically for steel wheels.
