GO School Head Teacher (Grades K-5) The GO Project’s vision is to close the achievement gap for all under-resourced families who have children that are struggling in their New York City public school. By providing access to coordinated, comprehensive, and effective programs, GO Project supports families in ensuring their child’s success in school, at home, and in life. Founded in 1968, the GO Project has a long history of serving public school children that are struggling academically. The GO Project currently serves more than 670 young people in grades K-8. Unique to the GO Project model is the partnership we have developed with independent schools in Lower Manhattan. These schools donate space and resources to the GO Project during the summer and on Saturdays to operate our programs. Current independent school partners and host site partners include Grace Church, Grace Church School, LREI, Avenues: The World School, St. Luke’s, Friends Seminary, and Berkeley Carroll. The GO Project was named a semi-finalist for the Nonprofit Excellence Awards, was named one of the most effective summer program models in the United States by the National Summer Learning Association, and was highlighted as an effective out-of-school time program as part of American Graduate Day on PBS. GO was also recognized for its outstanding board leadership as a finalist for the Brooke W. Mahoney Award. Please learn more about our programs and outcomes. Academic Program: GO School During GO School, students receive two and a half hours of academic instruction and skill building on 22 Saturdays from October through April. Our Head Teachers lead lessons, support volunteer tutors (who make a full-year commitment to tutor and mentor at GO), and communicate students’ progress with GO Families. Classroom sizes are kept small (with a maximum of 15 students), and volunteers (and some student teachers) help to provide a low student-to-adult ratio in each room. GO Head Teachers make a difference among our students: • 99% of students are promoted on time, despite previously being 1-2 years behind • 95% of students receiving targeted support services show improvement in social and behavioral goals Head Teacher Job Description The GO Project is seeking certified, highly qualified elementary and middle school teachers with at least two years of experience as a lead teacher in a classroom setting.
