JOB DESCRIPTION  POSITION SUMMARY  The Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Golf and is responsible for the overall maintenance, operations  and management of the golf course to provide the membership and their guests with an outstanding golf experience.  GCM team  members include an Assistant Superintendent, Bunker Foreman and 24 maintenance, pesticide and irrigation crew members.  In  addition, an Administrative Assistant, Equipment Manager and 3 mechanics are co‐shared with the Landscape Maintenance team.     

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS   Associate Degree or higher in Agronomy, Horticulture, Turf Management or related field    Minimum of 5‐10 years comparable golf course experience, including supervisory experience    Proven experience at a similar high end luxury resort or 5‐star private country club   Experience with seashore paspalum turf grasses and other turf grasses with proximity to ocean climates   Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize responsibilities in order to meet strict deadlines and to deliver a quality product   Ability to manage a multi‐million dollar golf maintenance and payroll budget   Excellent verbal and written communication skills   Exceptional customer service skills   Excellent team leader and mentor   Excel, Word & Microsoft Office experience   Experience in Hawaii’s multi‐cultural work environment is highly desirable    

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES   Responsible for the development of turf management programs and practices and for the maintenance of the golf course   Directly responsible for achieving golf course maintenance budget. Assists in developing and executing golf course budget and  its monitoring.    Directly supervises the care and operation of all improvement project work and the maintenance of all greens, tees, fairways,  roughs, bunkers and all other golf course facilities    Plan, train, supervise and delegate all tasks necessary for the maintenance of the golf course   Frequently inspects golf course to evaluate how well standards are being achieved.     Communicate regularly with other members of the Kukui`ula senior management team to discuss activities, goals, plans and  golf course conditions.   Directs training of all golf course personnel.  Responsible for the hiring, discipline and termination of employees according to  club policy and all state and federal regulations   Communicate effectively both in writing and orally with all supervisors and golf course personnel   Maintain effective working relationships with co‐workers and customers   Completely fill out reports and forms as required

Maintains all golf course maintenance records  Operates all golf course equipment  Ability to operate all specialized golf course equipment, sprayers, fertilization equipment, computerized irrigation system,  radios, telephones, general office equipment and supplies and motor vehicles  Directly supervises and on occasion performs fertilization, spraying and cultural activities on all turf areas   Obtain and maintain state pesticide application licenses  Follow safety rules  Take part in keeping Kukui`ula clean and litter free   Performs other managerial duties of the club as requested  Perform other duties as required

License or Certificates:   Hawaii State Pesticide License or ability to acquire   GCSAA or Class A superintendent is highly desired
