What have been your key achievements since joining Atkins? One of the main reasons I’ve pursued a career in structural engineering is that the outcome is very tangible. During my studies, I’d been eagerly anticipating the day I could see a building or structure I’d designed become a reality and that day arrived earlier this year when the new McLaren showroom opened in Manama City, Bahrain. It’s really exciting to be able to point out such a good looking building and

Since I’ve been here, I’ve had the opportunity to work abroad, carrying out a series of seismic surveys in Lebanon. I’ve also been involved in a site supervision role on an airside development at Heathrow Airport, which means I’m now super efficient at getting through airport security! What other activities have you been involved with sports or social? Shortly after joining Atkins, I became a member of the graduate forum for the design and engineering business and am now the graduate representative for our business;

a position I’ve held for just over a year. I’ve become great friends with the representatives of each of the other seven businesses and now help develop the UK graduate scheme by providing a direct route of communication between company graduates and the senior leadership team. As well as graduate development issues, in the past year we’ve also organised the first ever Atkins graduate ski trip and a summer event that saw 180 graduates from across the UK come together for a fun-filled day of sports and team building activities. I’ve also represented Atkins at several ‘TeenTech’ events that introduce school students to STEM subjects and encourage them to explore the possibilities of a career in engineering.

How would you describe the graduate community at Atkins?

What do you enjoy most about your role?

The graduate community at Atkins is amazing! Since I started at Atkins it has been nothing but positive, friendly and supportive. With a wide variety of socials throughout the year, it’s a great place to meet new people and make good friends.

What I enjoy most is the wide variety of projects that I am able to get involved with. My role can range from writing travel plans for schools that encourage sustainable travel, to producing signage and maps that enable people to move around an area with ease. I was given real responsibilities from my first day at

Atkins, and have been able to make valid contributions to both local and national projects. What type of projects have you undertaken? As part of the pedestrian and space planning team, I’ve worked on a variety of way finding projects, such as the Legible London and Portsmouth schemes, and another scheme in Surrey that helps people navigate the area using map-based signs. I’ve also worked with the urban development team on travel plans and surveys for city councils, which has given me another perspective on the process.
