Alderley Graduate Engineer Declan Stone

Declan Stone graduated from Swansea University with a MEng Chemical and Biochemical Engineering in 2014. While studying he received an IchemE Student Bursary Award and Swansea University’s Best Design Project Presentation Award. Having gained previous work experience as a manufacturing engineer focusing on process improvement and optimisation, Declan joined Alderley’s Graduate Programme in October 2014 to further his engineering career and work towards Chartered Engineer status.

Why did you choose Alderley? I was attracted to Alderley because it contains several Oil and Gas related companies in one group, giving the opportunity for learning a wide range of technical information covering metering, hydraulic controls and produced water treatment systems. Based outside of Bristol, which is a great city to live in, Alderley gives the chance to work on projects for the oil and gas industry which can be seen from start to finish.

“Based outside of Bristol, which is a great city to live in, Alderley gives the chance to work on projects for the oil and gas industry which can be seen from start to finish.” What benefits would you highlight to new applicants? I would apply to the scheme for the chartership opportunities and the chance to work in different locations around the world. The programme tries to ensure the graduate covers all the competencies required for their respective institution. By allowing the graduate to experience different areas of the business this process is speeded up.

What has been your experience of the programme to date? Since starting with Alderley four months ago I have spent two months working in the Dubai office, and I am now working in Wickwar helping complete the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for one of Alderley’s gas metering projects which is destined for Azerbaijan. During this short time I was able to help within the local community by promoting the company and engineering as a career at a local secondary school. In Dubai I was involved in a work based fun run for a charity chosen by the company, which was really enjoyable.
