GRIFFINS CUP - TOURNAMENT RULES & REGULATIONS

PLAYING RULES AND REGULATIONS: All games will be played under the Canadian Hockey League & Ontario Rep Hockey League Physical Foul rules with the following changes and are subject to change anytime. THIS TOURNAMENT IS A NO BODY CHECKING TOURNAMENT. By participating players, officials, coaches and fans assume responsibility for accidents or injuries before, during or after the game. ZERO TOLERANCE: There will be absolutely zero tolerance for abusive, obscene, profane, demeaning, threatening, or confrontational language and/or behaviour of any kind from parents, players and coaches toward the referees, timekeepers and other tournament officials. PROOF OF AGE: All participating organizations will insure all players meet the age categories outlined by divisions. NO OVER AGE PLAYERS MAY PARTICIPATE IN THESE TOURNAMENTS. All participating team rosters shall be submitted online and must be the same roster as approved prior to first game of the tournament. *Penalty for abuse of this rule may result in either the forfeit of games or tournament removal.

EQUIPMENT: Full hockey equipment is required including neck guards. All equipment must be CSA approved. All helmets must have a valid HECC certification date. All teams are responsible for storage of their own equipment. Mouth guards are not mandatory but are recommended by tournament officials. SWEATERS: All participating organizations have agreed on jersey colors for their associations. If jersey conflict exists, pinnies will be provided by the tournament committee to the visiting team, as denoted by the game sheet. GAME TIMES: Players, coaches and manager must be in the dressing rooms 30 minutes prior to game time. Game sheets must be completed, signed and returned to the tournament committee 10 minutes prior to game time. All teams are to be ready to play up to 15 minutes early. Before the scheduled game is started, players are asked to shake hands with their gloves on as quickly as possible. LENGTH OF GAMES: • • •

All games will consist of three 12 minute stop time periods (12X12x12) Games to be played in their entirety – If a curfew is necessary, both teams will be notified by Tournament Convenor. Once the Zamboni has left the ice surface, the game clock will be set to 3 minutes and started for warm up. After the 3 minute buzzer sounds, the game clock will be set to 12:00 minutes and will start. It is recommended that all teams be ready to start the game once the 3 minute buzzer has started. Delayed teams may incur a delay of game penalty if not ready to go and they cause an unnecessary delay.



It is very important that all time keepers and referees understand this procedure follow above procedures.

NO TIME OUTS WILL BE PERMITTED IN QUALIFYING ROUND GAMES Due to time restrictions 30 seconds will be allocated between periods for play to resume. Any teams in violation of this rule may be assessed a delay of game penalty.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES: There will be ONE 30 second time out permitted per team in the championship game – clock will be stopped. No time outs during overtime.

ADDITIONAL RULES: Maximum of 4 persons per bench and they must be listed on the game sheet. Unauthorized persons will be subject to removal by tournament officials at anytime. A five second puck drop rule is in effect from the point of the referee officials blowing the whistle to resume play. Any contact to a goaltender’s head by the puck will result in an automatic whistle at the official’s discretion. PHOTOGRAPHY: All photographers must be approved by the host Organization to have permission to go on the benches, in the penalty boxes or any restricted areas. PENALTIES: All minor penalties will be 2 minutes in length. All Major penalties will be 5 minutes in length. All Physical Foul penalties will follow the Ontario Rep Hockey League guidelines as outlined in appendix 1.1 Any match penalty will carry a game misconduct penalty and that player will be suspended for the balance of the tournament. Any major penalty will carry a game misconduct penalty and will be reviewed as to whether further discipline is necessary. Any fighting major will carry an automatic game misconduct and that player will be suspended for the balance of the tournament. Any coach, manager, team official or player who receives a game misconduct in the last 10 minutes or immediately after the game will be suspended for the next scheduled game(s). Any player receiving a ten (10) minute misconduct penalty in the third period will carry an automatic ejection and suspension for the next scheduled game. Any player whom receives three penalties in one game will be removed from the game. ***Note: A double minor (4 min.) penalty only counts as a single infraction against the three penalty tournament rule. Any player or team official receiving a suspension will not be permitted on the bench during their suspension. A major misconduct penalty shall be assessed to any coach, manager, team official or player who uses obscene or profane language or obscene gestures to any person; this will be immediate dismissal from the game and a one game suspension.

POINT SYSTEM WIN is worth 2 points TIE is worth 1 point LOSS is 0 points. TIE BREAK RULE If Two Teams are tied: 1. The winner of a head to head game will be awarded the higher seed. 2. The team with the most number of wins will be awarded the higher seed. 3. The team with the best (Goals for / Goals Against) differential during the tournament will be awarded the higher seed. 4. The team with the fewest recorded Penalty Minutes will be awarded the higher seed. 5. Coin Toss If Three or more Teams are tied: 1. The team with the most number of wins will be awarded the higher seed. 2. The team with the most best (Goals for / Goals Against) differential during the tournament will be awarded the higher seed. 3. The team with the fewest recorded Penalty Minutes will be awarded the higher seed. 4. Coin Toss IMPORTANT: If at any level the three-way tie is broken and two teams remain; the tie break formula will revert back to the start and be reapplied using the two team tie break rule. THE FOLLOWING RULE APPLIES TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES ONLY OVERTIME RULE 1. Overtime: 5 Minutes running time sudden death 3 skaters per side, players are required to change on the fly. 2. Shoot Out. Alternate shot using three different players. Most goals wins. Players to be identified at the start of the shoot out. 3. Sudden death shoot out. One at a time. Different players from the first group will be selected to do the sudden death shoot out. No player can shoot a second time until everyone has had an opportunity.
