From the garden plot to the kitchen plate! Growing Healthy Communities is a hands on gardening and cooking program. Using the kitchen and vegetable garden at Westvale Community Centre, you will learn about:     

Looking after the garden beds, weeding, mulching and watering Harvesting and storing vegetables and herbs Preparing and handling food hygienically and safely Preparing and cooking food and planning healthy meals Practical and safe kitchen and garden skills

Learning activities are introduced in the program and may lead to enrolment in units of competency from an accredited foundation course. Upon successful completion of the program you will have:  Statements of Participation  Statements of Attainment for successful completion of units of competency in food handling and from an accredited course  Developed new skills and knowledge in garden, kitchen operations, food handling and hospitality  Learned about your local community activities and services  Contributed to a valuable community food and garden project  Created pathways to future education, training and employment

Program Details: When: Mondays from 9.30am – 2.30pm Where: Westvale Community Centre, 45 Kings Road, St Albans, VIC 3021 Clothes: For outdoors and kitchen, including closed in shoes.
