June 29,2011 Jim O'Donnell, Chairman and CEO BMW of North America, LLC 300 Chestnut Ridge Road Woodcliff Lake, NJ 07675 Dear Chairman O'Donnell: It has come to my attention that BMW of North America has noticed that they plan to contract out jobs at your Ontario California Distribution Center beginning August 31st, 2011. The plan further calls to replace the majority of these jobs with potentially low skilled and low paid employees. These plans will end a 40year partnership your company has enjoyed with the many workers whose jobs will end August 31 st. Let me note that this decision comes at a time when Southern California is still experiencing some of the highest unemployment rates in the country. Replacing these positions with a low wage work force is a blow to the local economy. As a former businesswoman, I understand that hard business decisions must be made; however, losing talented individuals that are well trained, dedicated and efficient employees during an economic downturn is in no one's best interest Your award-winning employees at the Ontario California Distribution Center have provided the highest quality parts and services for BMW. Having to train a new, incoming crew will make it very difficult to once again reach those high-quality standards. I respectfully request that you reconsider your plans to.contract out the current employee's positions at the Ontario Distribution Center. These employees have contributed greatly to the success ofBMW of North America and are an integral part of Southern California's workforce and economic prosperity. BMW has an opportunity to rise to the occasion and make the right decision to preserve these important jobs for the benefit of everyone involved. If you would like to discuss this further please contact my district director, Paula Negrete, at (714) 621-0102 or
[email protected].
