Guidelines for Flu Prevention

* Parents should be alert to any signs of fever and any other signs of influenza-like illness such as sore throat, cough, stuffy nose, chills, and body aches, before sending their child or children to school. The school should be contacted when a student is ill and will be absent. *The Center for Disease Control recommends students with influenza-like illness remain at home for at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100° F [37.8° C] or greater), or signs of a fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications. *Wash hands with soap and water frequently or with alcohol based hand cleaners. *Cover mouth with a tissue or elbow when coughing or sneezing. *Students who are well, but who have a family member, at home with influenza, can go to school as usual. However, parents should monitor their child's health every day, and stay home if they become ill.
