Tonight’s Game: The Gwinnett Stripers continue a seven-game, two-city road trip tonight with the opener of a four-game series vs. the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates).  In the South: The Stripers (9-15, .375) are fourth in the IL South, trailing Durham (1st, 13-11, .542) by 4.0 games, Norfolk (2nd, 12-11, .522) by 3.5 games and Charlotte (3rd, 11-14, .440) by 1.5 games.  All-Time vs. Indianapolis: Gwinnett is 35-41 (.461) in 76 prior meetings with the Indians, winning the season series over Indianapolis just once in nine seasons: 2009 (6-2).

Last Game: The Stripers’ hopes of a sweep were dashed with a 6-5 loss to the Charlotte Knights yesterday afternoon at BB&T Ballpark. Gwinnett took leads of 2-0 and 3-2, but LHP Luiz Gohara (L, 0-2) yielded six runs over 4.1 ROAD TRIP (2-1) innings and exited with a 6-3 deficit. Kevan Smith blasted a twoBatting: run homer off Gohara to tie the game at 2-2 in the first inning, .324 (36-for-111), 10 2B, 3 3B, then added an RBI single to cap a three-run second as Charlotte 3 HR, 18 R, 17 RBI, 4 SB took a 5-3 lead. Patrick Leonard lifted a solo homer off Gohara to Pitching: 3.81 ERA (11 ER in 26.0 IP), make it 6-3 in the fifth. The Stripers scored twice in the sixth to 9 BB, 29 SO, 1 Hold, 1 Save close the gap to 6-5, but the comeback stalled there. Following 5.0 innings of five-run baseball from LHP Matt Tomshaw (W, 1-0), Knights’ relievers Rob Scahill (H, 3), Xavier Cedeno (H, 4) and Jeanmar Gomez (S, 1) combined on 4.0 scoreless IP. 3B Jose Bautista (2-for-3, R), CF Peter Bourjos (2-for-4, 2B, R, RBI), LF Dustin Peterson (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) and RF Danny Santana (2-for-4, 2B, 3B, R) each had multi-hit efforts.

Petey Power: After starting the year 0-for-14, Dustin Peterson is batting .342 (26-for-76, 8 2B, 3 HR, 8 R, 16 RBI) over 18 games since 4/12…he ranks eighth in the IL in batting in that span. His three home runs this season (T-7th in IL) are already two more than he had all last year (1 HR in 87 games with Gwinnett). Peterson also ranks among IL offensive leaders in hits (T-3rd, 26), doubles (T4th, 8), extra-base hits (T-4th, 11), RBI (T-5th, 16) and total bases (T-5th, 43).  IL Batter of the Week: He was named the IL Batter of the Week for 4/23-4/29 after hitting .391 (9for-23, 4 2B, 2 HR, 3 R, 8 RBI) in six games…he led the IL in doubles (T-1st), homers (T-1st), RBI (T1st), extra-base hits (1st, 6), SLG (1st, .826), OPS (1st, 1.288) and total bases (1st, 19) in that span.
