Tonight’s Game: The Gwinnett Stripers play game two of a three-game series vs. the Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays)…it is the second of seven series between the two clubs this season.  In the South: The Stripers (7-12, .368) are fourth in the IL South, trailing Norfolk (1st, 10-8, .556) by 3.5 games, Durham (2nd, 9-10, .474) by 2.0 games and Charlotte (3rd, 9-11, .450) by 1.5 games.  All-Time vs. Durham: Gwinnett is 89-107 (.454) in 196 prior meetings with Durham, and has won the season series vs. the Bulls three times in nine years: 2010 (12-9), 2012 (11-10) and 2015 (12-9).

Last Game: The Stripers allowed season highs in runs (10), hits (16) and home runs (3) in a 10-4 loss to the Durham Bulls last night at Coolray Field. LHP Luiz Gohara (L, 0-1) yielded a solo homer to Jake Bauers as part of a HOMESTAND (0-1) two-run first inning, and a two-run shot to Brandon Snyder in the Batting: third as Gwinnett fell behind 5-0. Gohara exited after 4.0 innings .200 (7-for-35), 3 2B, 0 3B, with six runs – four earned – on seven hits and three walks. RHP 0 HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, 0 SB Miguel Socolovich was tagged for three runs over 2.0 innings, Pitching: 8.00 ERA (8 ER in 9.0 IP), two coming on a fifth-inning homer by Andrew Velazquez. The 4 BB, 10 SO, 0 Holds, 0 Saves Stripers ended the shutout against LHP Anthony Banda in the sixth as LF Dustin Peterson (2-for-4, 2B, R, RBI) and C Rob Brantly (1-for-4, RBI) each tallied RBI singles. Banda (W, 3-2) struck out eight over 5.2 innings of tworun baseball. Durham added a run off LHP Rex Brothers to make it 10-2 in the ninth, but Gwinnett responded with RBI from RF Jaff Decker (2-for-3, 2 2B, R, RBI) and 3B Jose Bautista (1-for-3, RBI).

Petey Power: Dustin Peterson has posted three-straight multi-hit games, batting .571 (8-for14, 3 2B, 2 HR, 3 R, 7 RBI). He has more homers in his last three games (2) than he did over 87 games (1) on his Triple-A debut with Gwinnett last season. Joey Bats Debuts: 37-year-old Jose Bautista made his home debut for the Stripers last night, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single. In five games with Gwinnett, he is batting .176 (3-for-17, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 SB) and is posting a 1.000 fielding percentage (0 errors/12 TC) in four starts at third base. Bautista, a six-time AL All-Star and three-time AL Silver Slugger with Toronto (2008-17), is batting .208 (5-for-24, 1 2B, 3 R, 1 RBI, 6 BB, 5 SO, 1 SB) in seven MiLB games since signing with Atlanta on 4/18.

The 20-year-old, rated No. 2 on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects list, became the 75th Gwinnett player to make his MLB debut (2nd in 2018) that night at Cincinnati (1-for-5, 1 R) and went 3-for-4 with his first career homer (solo, off Reds’ RHP Homer Bailey) and two RBI in Atlanta’s 7-4 win on 4/26. Berryhill is Back: Former Atlanta Braves catcher Damon Berryhill is 78-83 (.484) in 161 games as Gwinnett’s manager since the start of 2017. Berryhill, the sixth skipper in Gwinnett’s 10-year history, has a career managerial record of 496-470 (.513) in 966 games across 10 MiLB seasons.

2017 in Review: Playing in their final season under the “Braves” moniker, the Gwinnett Braves went 71-71 (.500) to finish tied for sixth in the 14-team International League. Gwinnett finished second in the IL South Division, 15.0 games behind first-place Durham (86-56), 5.0 games ahead of third-place Norfolk (66-76) and 10.0 games ahead of fourth-place Charlotte (61-81). Though the GWN Season Records G-Braves won six more games than in YEAR RECORD PLACE 2016 (65-78), the club failed to repeat as 2009 81-63 4th 2010 72-71 7th IL South Division Champions. 2011 78-65 5th  Steady in Second: Gwinnett spent 2012 62-82 12th 135 of 152 days in second place in the IL 2013 60-84 14th South Division (3 days from 4/13-4/15, 1 2014 65-77 12th day on 4/18, 26 days from 4/25-5/20, 105 2015 77-67 T-5th days from 5/23-9/4). Vs. Durham: Allard faces the Bulls for the second time in his career tonight. He made his first career Triple-A start at Durham on 4/10. After surrendering a three-run homer to the Bulls’ Brandon Snyder in the first inning, he settled down to work 4.0 innings (4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 3 SO) in a no-decision. He exited with a 4-2 deficit, but the Stripers rallied for a 5-4 win.

Pawtucket. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.0 innings, exiting with a 2-0 deficit. The Stripers were shut out by Jalen Beeks and three PawSox relievers in a 6-0 loss.

Career Highlights: Entering 2018, Allard was 16-14 with a 3.03 ERA (82 ER in 243.2 IP) over 46 career starts in the Braves system.  Selected by the Braves in the first round (14th overall) of the 2015 June draft out of San Clemente High School (San Clemente, CA).  Started his career in 2015 with the GCL Braves, pitching six scoreless innings over three starts and fanning 12 of the 20 batters he faced.  Opened 2016 with Rookie-level Danville, going 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA (4 ER in 27.1 IP) while holding batters to a .186 average.  Promoted to Class-A Rome in 2016, where he went 5-3 with a 3.73 ERA (25 ER in 60.1 IP) over 11 starts. He also made two scoreless starts (12.0 IP) for Rome in the South Atlantic League Playoffs.
