Tonight’s Game: The Gwinnett Stripers continue a six-game, two-city (3 at COL, 3 at TOL) road trip tonight with game two of a three-game series vs. the Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Indians).  In the South: The Stripers (14-22) are fourth in the IL South Division, trailing Durham (1st, 22-14) by 8.0 games, Norfolk (2nd, 19-16) by 5.5 games and Charlotte (3rd, 15-22) by 0.5 games.  All-Time vs. Columbus: Gwinnett is 26-45 (.366) in 71 regular-season meetings with Columbus, winning the season series vs. the Clippers twice in nine years: 2009 (5-3) and 2015 (6-4).

Last Game: The Stripers rallied back from a 4-1 deficit to send the game to extras, but lost 5-4 to the Columbus Clippers in 10 innings last night at Huntington Park. With the score tied 4-4 in the 10th, RHP Josh Ravin (L, 0-2) ROAD TRIP (0-1) committed a throwing error following Yu Chang’s sacrifice bunt, Batting: allowing Brandon Barnes to score from second for a Clippers’ .216 (8-for-37), 2 2B, 0 3B, walk-off win. Gwinnett had tied the game in the eighth on a two0 HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, 0 SB out, three-run double by DH Carlos Franco (1-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) Pitching: 3.00 ERA (3 ER in 9.0 IP), off RHP Cam Hill (BS, 1) but stranded six runners on base over 2 BB, 11 SO, 0 Holds, 0 Saves the final three innings. LHP Robert Zarate (W, 1-0) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the 10th for Columbus. RHP Wes Parsons pitched 6.0 innings with three runs on four hits and eight strikeouts in a no-decision for the Stripers. He exited trailing 3-1, and the Clippers added an unearned run against RHP Jason Hursh in the seventh.

Extra Difficulty: With last night’s loss, Gwinnett is now 0-5 under MiLB’s new extra-inning rules (all extra innings start with a runner at second base). The five extra-inning losses are tied for the most in MiLB alongside Erie (1-5) of the Double-A Eastern League. The Stripers have been outscored 15-9 in extra frames, including losses on 4/12 vs. Rochester (7-6 in 14 innings), 4/13 vs. Rochester (64 in 11 innings), 4/20 at Pawtucket (5-4 in 11 innings) and 4/22 at Pawtucket (10-9 in 11 innings).

Fantastic Franco: Carlos Franco tallied his team-leading ninth multi-RBI game of the year last night (3 RBI), raising his IL-leading RBI total to 31…that’s four more than Toledo’s Christin Stewart (2nd, 27 RBI). Franco also ranks among IL leaders in games (T-1st, 36), at-bats (T-3rd, 141), home runs (T-3rd, 6), total bases (T-4th, 60) and hits (T-10th, 35). Eighteen of his RBI have come on the road, where he is batting .324 (24-for-74, 4 2B, 4 HR, 10 R, .541 SLG, .926 OPS) in 19 games. Gwinnett’s Player of the Month for April (.250, 22-for-88, 5 2B, 4 HR, 11 R, 18 RBI, .752 OPS in 22 games), Franco is batting .245 (13-for-55, 2 2B, 2 HR, 5 R, 13 RBI, .701 OPS) in 14 games in May.

Santana Streaking: Danny Santana enters play looking to extend a seven-game hitting streak. He is batting .419 (13-for-31, 7 2B, 1 3B, 8 R, 2 RBI) on the streak since 5/7, tied for the longest on the club this season. Since 4/22, Santana ranks third in the IL in batting with a .361 mark (22-for-61, 8 2B, 3 3B, 11 R, 6 RBI, 4 SB) in 15 games…that hot stretch has raised his average from .147 to .284.

Rise of Riley: Austin Riley is batting .750 (6-for-8, 3 HR, 4 R, 9 RBI) over his last two games, including a career-best three-homer, eight-RBI effort on Sunday vs. Norfolk (4-for-5). He is just the second Gwinnett player to hit three homers in a game (Derrick Mitchell, 5/9/14 at Lehigh Valley), as well as the second Gwinnett player to tally eight RBI in a game (Mauro Gomez, 7/25/11 at Norfolk). Rated No. 77 on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects list, Riley is batting .375 (12-for-32, 1 2B, 3 HR, 6 R, 10 RBI, 1 SB, 1.132 OPS) in eight games on his Triple-A debut. Between Gwinnett and Mississippi, he is batting .344 (45-for-131, 11 2B, 3 3B, 9 HR, 23 R, 30 RBI, 1.086 OPS) in 35 games.

All Good: Kolby Allard turned in his fourth straight quality start on Sunday vs. Norfolk, matching his single-game career high with 8.0 IP (2 H, 0 R, 1 HB, 1 BB, 8 SO) in the win…it was his second career 8.0-inning start, first since 8/21/16 with Class-A Rome at Asheville (win, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 HR, 1 HB, 0 BB, 4 SO). Allard is 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA (2 ER in 27.1 IP) on the four-start quality streak and has not allowed a run over his last 13.1 IP dating back to the first inning on 5/8 vs. Charlotte. Rated No. 54 on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects list, Allard ranks among IL leaders in ERA (2nd, 1.71), starts (T-2nd, 7), innings (T-3rd, 42.0), wins (T-7th, 3), WHIP (T-9th, 1.07) and BAA (10th, .211).

IL Leaderboard: In addition to the rankings for Franco and Allard, the following active Stripers are among International League leaders: Rio Ruiz ranks in games (T-1st, 36), at-bats (2nd, 142), runs (T6th, 21) and doubles (T-8th, 10)…Peter Bourjos and Danny Santana are tied for the league lead in triples (3)…Ezequiel Carrera ranks in stolen bases (T-7th, 7)…among pitchers, Matt Wisler ranks in complete games (T-1st, 1), lowest BB/9.0 IP ratio for starters (2nd, 0.90) and WHIP (T-7th, 1.03)…Evan Phillips ranks among relievers in holds (T-5th, 3).

Last Start: Pitching on his 24th birthday on 5/10 vs. Charlotte, Sims carried a shutout into the seventh inning before surrendering a two-out solo homer to Patrick Leonard. He went a season-high 6.2 innings (7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 HB, 0 BB, 6 SO) to earn his second consecutive win. A Peter Bourjos sixth-inning grand slam provided more than enough support in the Stripers’ 7-1 victory.
