Tonight’s Game: The Gwinnett Stripers continue a seven-game homestand tonight with game two of a four-game series vs. the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox).  In the South: The Stripers (11-18) are fourth in the IL South Division, trailing Durham (1st, 17-12) by 6.0 games, Norfolk (2nd, 16-12) by 5.5 games and Charlotte (3rd, 13-17) by 1.5 games.  All-Time vs. Charlotte: Gwinnett is 104-105 (.498) in 209 prior meetings with Charlotte, winning the season series four times in nine years: 2011 (13-8), 2013 (13-9), 2014 (13-9) and 2017 (14-11).

Last Game: The Stripers opened the homestand with a 5-4 loss to the Charlotte Knights last night at Coolray Field. Gwinnett took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning as RF Xavier Avery (2-for-4, 2 R) singled, 2B Phil HOMESTAND (0-1) Gosselin (2-for-4, 2B, R) doubled, C Rob Brantly (2-for-4, 2 Batting: RBI) grounded out to score Avery and LF Danny Santana (3-for.316 (12-for-38), 2 2B, 0 3B, 5, 2B, RBI) singled to score Gosselin. The lead was short-lived as 0 HR, 4 R, 4 RBI, 0 SB Charlotte scored four runs off LHP Jon Kennedy (L, 0-1) to go Pitching: 5.00 ERA (5 ER in 9.0 IP), ahead 4-2 in the fourth. Kennedy allowed four-straight one-out 0 BB, 9 SO, 0 Holds, 0 Saves hits, including an RBI single by Jacob May and two-run double by Charlie Tilson. Brantly cut the deficit to 4-3 with an RBI single in the third, but the Knights added a run off RHP Evan Phillips in the sixth to make it 5-3. DH Rio Ruiz (0-for-5, RBI) answered with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth, but the Stripers drew no closer than 5-4. LHP Matt Tomshaw (W, 2-0) won despite allowing four runs on 11 hits, and three relievers including RHP Gregory Infante (S, 2) combined on 3.1 scoreless innings for Charlotte.

Riley Arrives: Last night marked the Triple-A debut of Austin Riley, the No. 93 prospect on MLB.com’s Top 100 Prospects list. Riley singled to right field in his first at-bat and finished 1-for-5 with three strikeouts. Also rated Atlanta’s No. 8 prospect by MLB.com, Riley opened the season with Double-A Mississippi, batting .333 (33-for-99, 10 2B, 3 3B, 6 HR, 20 RBI) in 27 games. As of 5/6, he ranked among Southern League leaders in slugging percentage (1st, .667), extra-base hits (1st, 19), total bases (1st, 67), homers (T-1st), RBI (2nd), doubles (T-2nd), hits (5th) and batting (9th).

Welcome Home: Playing in his first home game with Gwinnett since 7/24/14 vs. Scranton, Phil Gosselin went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored last night. In 86 career games with Gwinnett at Coolray Field, Gosselin is batting .366 (119-for-325, 19 2B, 4 3B, 4 HR, 44 R, 28 RBI, 5 SB). He is a .315 hitter (188-for-596, 34 2B, 6 3B, 7 HR, 77 R, 47 RBI, 7 SB) in 158 games with Gwinnett overall, including 154 games as a G-Brave from 2013-14 (was an IL Postseason All-Star in 2014).

Fantastic Franco: Carlos Franco enters play ranking among International League leaders in RBI (T-1st, 21), total bases (T-3rd, 51), homers (4th, 5), hits (T-4th, 30) and extra-base hits (T-9th, 11). He batted .346 (9-for-26, 1 2B, 2 HR, 5 R, 6 RBI) in seven games on the last road trip, blasting homers on 4/30 at Charlotte (3-run, off LHP Kyle Kubat) and 5/4 at Indianapolis (2-run, off RHP Alex McRae). In 18 road games this season, Franco is batting .329 (23-for-70, 3 2B, 4 HR, 10 R, 15 RBI, .927 OPS).

Petey Power: Dustin Peterson was placed on Gwinnett’s seven-day disabled list on Friday. 2017 in Review: Playing in their final season under the “Braves” moniker, the Gwinnett Braves went 71-71 (.500) to finish tied for sixth in the 14-team International League. Gwinnett finished second in the IL South Division, 15.0 games behind first-place Durham (86-56), 5.0 games ahead of third-place Norfolk (66-76) and 10.0 games ahead of fourthplace Charlotte (61-81). Though Gwinnett won six more games than in 2016 (6578), the club failed to repeat as IL South Division Champions.

Vs. Charlotte: Making his sixth Triple-A start, Allard will face the Charlotte Knights for the first time in his career tonight.

Last Start: In his longest outing of the season, Allard pitched 7.0 innings (6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO) in a no-decision on 5/3 at Indianapolis. After allowing a run in the first inning, he held the Indians scoreless over the next 6.0 frames. He exited with a 2-1 lead, but the Stripers lost the game in the ninth on a walkoff double by Erich Weiss of RHP Josh Ravin.

About 2017: Allard spent the entire season with Mississippi, going 8-11 with a 3.18 ERA (53 ER in 150.0 IP) in 27 starts. Career Highlights: Entering 2018, Allard was 16-14 with a 3.03 ERA (82 ER in 243.2 IP) over 46 career starts in the Braves system.  Selected by the Braves in the first round (14th overall) of the 2015 June draft out of San Clemente High School (San Clemente, CA).  Started his career in 2015 with the GCL Braves, pitching six scoreless innings over three starts and fanning 12 of the 20 batters he faced.  Opened 2016 with Rookie-level Danville, going 3-0 with a 1.32 ERA (4 ER in 27.1 IP) while holding batters to a .186 average.  Promoted to Class-A Rome in 2016, where he went 5-3 with a 3.73 ERA (25 ER in 60.1 IP) over 11 starts. He also made two scoreless starts (12.0 IP) for Rome in the South Atlantic League Playoffs.
