Saturday, July 14, 2018  7:05 PM  Harbor Park, Norfolk, VA  Game #92 of 140  Road Game #50  Radio: 97.7 FM / 93.5 FM Tonight’s Game: The Gwinnett Stripers continue a four-game road trip tonight with game three of a four-game series vs. the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A, Baltimore Orioles).  IL Standings: The Stripers (39-52) are fourth in the International League South Division, trailing Durham (1st, 52-38) by 13.5 games, Norfolk (2nd, 47-42) by 9.0 games and Charlotte (3rd, 41-50) by 2.0 games. Gwinnett’s .429 winning percentage is 12th in the 14-team circuit.  All-Time vs. Norfolk: Gwinnett is 112-98 (.533) in 210 prior meetings with Norfolk (6-10 in 2018), and has won the season series vs. the Tides seven times in the previous nine years: 2009 (11-10), 2010 (11-10), 2011 (14-7), 2014 (11-10), 2015 (12-10), 2016 (17-6) and 2017 (13-10).

Last Game: The Stripers fell to 1-9 (.100, 14th in IL) in extra innings this season with a 5-4 loss to the Norfolk Tides last night at Harbor Park. Gwinnett entered the ninth inning trailing 2-1, but RF Dustin Peterson (2-for-4, HR, ROAD TRIP (1-1) 2 R, 2 RBI) blasted a two-run homer to right off RHP Tim Melville Batting (8 Runs Scored): to give the Stripers a 3-2 lead. CF Xavier Avery (3-for-4, 2B, R, .230 (17-for-74), 3 2B, 0 3B, SB) followed with a double, stole third and scored on an error to 1 HR, 7 RBI, 2 SB make it 4-2. The lead wouldn’t hold, however, as RHP Jason Pitching (6 Runs Allowed): 2.50 ERA (5 ER in 18.0 IP), Hursh (BS, 5) surrendered a two-out, two-run single to Ruben 2 BB, 11 SO, 2 QS, 1 SV Tejada to tie the game at 4-4. In the 10th, Gwinnett failed to score against RHP Eddie Gamboa (W, 1-0) in the top of the frame, and LHP Rex Brothers (L, 2-4) promptly allowed a walk-off single to D.J. Stewart scoring Luis Sardiñas from second base. Stripers’ LHP Luiz Gohara tossed 6.0 two-run innings in a no-decision. Gwinnett also dropped to 11-20 (.355, 14th in IL) in one-run games with the club’s 17th last at-bat loss.

Petey Power: Dustin Peterson’s go-ahead two-run blast off RHP Tim Melville was his second home run of July…he’s batting a season-best .306 (11-for-36, 5 R, 7 RBI, .419 OBP, .472 SLG, .891 OPS) in 10 games this month. Peterson has eight homers in 65 games with Gwinnett this season, seven more than he had in his injury-shortened Triple-A debut (.248, 1 HR, 30 RBI in 87G).

Rotation Resurgence: Including last night’s quality start by Luiz Gohara (ND, 6.0 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO), Gwinnett starting pitchers are 3-1 with a 1.42 ERA (6 ER in 38.0 IP) and five quality starts in the last six games (team is 4-2). Stripers’ starters had gone 1-5 with a 6.79 ERA (43 ER in 57.0 IP) and just two quality starts in the previous 13 games from 6/23-7/4 (team went 1-12).  Kolby Allard: Is 5-4 with a 2.96 ERA (32 ER in 97.1 IP) and 10 quality starts in 16 starts on his Triple-A debut with Gwinnett, ranking among IL leaders in innings (T-4th), ERA (5th) and starts (T-9th).  Wes Parsons: Is 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA (15 ER in 45.1 IP) and five quality starts in eight Triple-A starts this season.
