Tonight’s Game: The Gwinnett Stripers continue a seven-game homestand tonight with game one of a three-game series vs. the Pawtucket Red Sox (Triple-A, Boston Red Sox).  IL Standings: The Stripers (44-53) are fourth in the International League South Division, trailing Durham (1st, 55-41) by 11.5 games, Norfolk (2nd, 50-46) by 6.5 games and Charlotte (3rd, 45-52) by 1.0 game. Gwinnett’s .454 winning percentage is 12th in the 14-team circuit.  All-Time vs. Pawtucket: Gwinnett is 29-39 (.426) in 68 prior meetings with Pawtucket, winning the season series vs. the Red Sox twice in the previous nine seasons: 2009 (6-2) and 2017 (4-2).

Last Game: The Stripers had their five-game winning streak snapped by the Indianapolis Indians in a 10-3 loss last night at Coolray Field. LHP Luiz Gohara (L, 1-4) yielded four runs on seven hits over 4.1 innings as Indianapolis HOMESTAND (3-1) opened a 4-1 lead. Gwinnett cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fifth on a Batting (18 Runs Scored): sacrifice fly by 3B Austin Riley (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) scoring SS .355 (49-for-138), 9 2B, 2 3B, Luis Marte (1-for-4, R), but the Indians answered with four runs 2 HR, 18 RBI, 3 SB off RHP Andres Santiago in the sixth. Adam Frazier’s two-run Pitching (17 Runs Allowed): 4.00 ERA (16 ER in 36.0 IP), single and Austin Meadows’ two-run homer extended the lead to 14 BB, 31 SO, 2 QS, 1 SV 8-2. Kevin Newman added a two-run blast off RHP Fernando Salas to make it 10-2 in the ninth. Riley drove in all three of the Stripers’ runs, including an RBI single in the ninth scoring RF Rio Ruiz (3-for-4, 2 3B, 2 R) for the 10-3 final. RHP J.T. Brubaker (W, 5-3) allowed two runs on eight hits over 5.0 innings for Indianapolis.

His Name is Rio: A night after blasting his second career walk-off homer with Gwinnett (2-run, off RHP Jesus Liranzo in 9th for 4-2 win), Rio Ruiz made more history last night, becoming the fourth Gwinnett player to triple twice in a game (first since Emilio Bonifacio on 8/20/16 vs. ROC). Ruiz has notched hits in 19 of his last 21 games since 6/26, ranking sixth in the IL in batting in that span (.355, 33-for-93, 3 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 15 R, 24 RBI). He ranks among IL leaders in games (1st, 97), atbats (1st, 382), hits (2nd, 103), runs (2nd, 54), RBI (3rd, 56), total bases (4th, 149) and triples (T-6th, 4).

He has five multi-hit efforts, including a four-game multihit streak from 7/15-7/18 (.625, 10-for-16, 2 2B, 3 R, 7 RBI), tied for the longest such streak on the club this year (Rio Ruiz, 4G, 6/27-6/30). Marte is batting .429 (24-for-56, 3 2B, 9 R, 9 RBI, 2 SB) in 16 July games, including nine games with Mississippi prior to his Triple-a promotion.
