Today’s Games: The Gwinnett Stripers continue a seven-day, nine-game road trip today with a day/night doubleheader against the Charlotte Knights (Triple-A, Chicago White Sox).  IL Standings: The Stripers (63-65) are third in the International League South Division, trailing Durham (1st, 72-57) by 8.5 games and Norfolk (2nd, 67-63) by 3.0 games and leading Charlotte (4th, 59-69) by 4.0 games. Gwinnett is sixth in the Wild Card race, 5.0 games behind COL/IND (69-61).  All-Time vs. Charlotte: Gwinnett is 109-110 (.498) in 219 games vs. Charlotte since 2009 and has won the season series four times: 2011 (13-8), 2013 (13-9), 2014 (13-9) and 2017 (14-11).

Last Game: RHP Touki Toussaint tossed 7.0 scoreless, three-hit innings to lead the Stripers to a 5-0 win over Durham and a 3-2 series victory on Thursday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Toussaint (W, 4-0) allowed just (3-2) three singles and one walk while striking out eight. LHP Adam Batting (20 Runs Scored): McCreery struck out three over 2.0 hitless innings to finish the .214 (28-for-131), 7 2B, 0 3B, three-hit shutout. Gwinnett tallied five runs against RHP Ryan 6 HR, 17 RBI, 1 SB Weber (L, 8-6), who lasted 5.0 innings for the Bulls. 3B Austin Pitching (15 Runs Allowed): 3.86 ERA (15 ER in 35.0 IP), Riley (2-for-3, HR, 2 R, RBI) blasted a solo home run to left7 BB, 38 SO, 1 QS, 1 SV center for a 1-0 lead in the first, and 1B Rio Ruiz (1-for-4, HR, R, 3 RBI) lifted a towering three-run shot to right field to make it 5-0 in the fourth. The Stripers improved to 13-7 (.650, 3rd in IL) in shutout decisions with the win, their fourth shutout in 21 games in August (first since a 6-0 win on 8/13 vs. Louisville).

Strong Stretch: The Stripers are 28-15 (.651) over their last 43 games since 7/5. Gwinnett has outscored opponents 194-170 in that span, batting .277 (398-for-1,435, 77 2B, 8 3B, 31 HR, 181 RBI, 23 SB) and posting a 3.67 ERA (152 ER in 372.1 IP, 34 HR, 128 BB, 372 SO). Starting pitchers have gone 16-7 with a 3.21 ERA (85 ER in 238.1 IP) and 18 quality starts in the 43 games.

Terrific Touki: Touki Toussaint is 4-0 with a 1.62 ERA (8 ER in 44.1 IP), a .198 BAA (32-for-162, 0 HR, 15 BB, 49 SO) and five quality starts in seven outings on his Triple-A debut. He ranks second in the IL in ERA since joining the Stripers on 7/5 and hasn’t allowed a run over his last 12.2 innings (last run came in 1st inning on 8/18 vs. Buffalo). In 23 starts between Gwinnett and Mississippi, he is 8-6 with a Braves’ MiLB-best 2.49 ERA (36 ER in 130.1 IP) and 156 strikeouts (10th in MiLB).

Rise of Riley: Austin Riley blasted three home runs (#6-8) in the series at Durham, batting .333 (5-for-15) with five RBI. He homered in back-to-back games for the first time in his Triple-A career on Tuesday (solo HR off RHP Chih-Wei Hu in G1, 2-run HR off RHP Jake Faria in G2) and belted a solo shot on Thursday (off RHP Ryan Weber). Riley is batting .293 (106-for-362, 28 2B, 3 3B, 15 HR, 51 R, 58 RBI, 1 SB, .362 OBP, .511 SLG, .873 OPS) in 97 games across three levels, including .278 (68-for-245, 15 2B, 8 HR, 31 R, 35 RBI, 1 SB) in 64 games on his Triple-A debut with Gwinnett.

His Name is Rio: Rio Ruiz hit his eighth home run on Thursday at Durham (3-run, off RHP Ryan Weber), his first long-ball since 7/21 vs. Pawtucket. Ruiz has hit safely in 39 of 48 games since 6/26, ranking 13th in the IL in batting in that span (.303, 57-for-188, 8 2B, 2 3B, 5 HR, 28 R, 36 RBI, .357 OBP, .447 SLG, .804 OPS). He ranks among IL leaders in games (1st, 124), at-bats (2nd, 477), RBI (5th, 68), runs (T-5th, 67), total bases (6th, 184), hits (T-6th, 127), triples (T-9th, 4) and doubles (T-10th, 25).

Reed, Between the Lines: Recalled by Atlanta on Tuesday, Michael Reed went 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter that night at Pittsburgh before being optioned back to Gwinnett on Wednesday. He enters play riding a 13-game on-base streak with the Stripers since 7/15, batting .423 (22-for-52, 3 2B, 2 HR, 12 R, 5 RBI, 3 SB, 6 BB) with eight multi-hit games.
