Hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is the painful and debilitating condition that can seriously affect your working and social life. How to identify the risk: • Look for the vibration rate of the equipment to be used, measured as metres per second squared (m/s2) - vibration magnitude (left side of the chart) • Identify the time the equipment is to be used – exposure time (along the bottom of the chart) • Where the two meet is the score, check the risk colour above the chart. To calculate the exposure time for two different pieces of equipment, repeat above and add the two scores together
